| Senator Edward M. Kennedy Needs Our Prayers |

Senator Kennedy has Malignant Brain Tumor is the headline in The New York Times today. One of the most memorable moments of my life was watching Sen. Ted Kennedy give the eulogy in St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC for his slain brother, presidential candidate Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. It was the first time I cried in front of my mother. I did not cry today when I saw the news online at the NYT.com website, because I did not feel hopeless or powerless; prayer and Christ now keeps me from despair and hopelessness.
Through the years it has become fashionable to take glee in the debunking of the Kennedy family myth. Not in our family. Senator Kennedy gained mythic dimensions as a father, head of the huge extended family, man of faith, and public servant.
I pray not for the celebrity, but the man of faith and grieving younger brother who had to bury his three older brothers and three older sisters. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners (including Sen. Kennedy); now and at the hour of our death. Amen. |
