Senior prom!! "Yes, you can go to the party afterward" we said. Of course we talked with the parents to make sure there was going to be adequate supervision. We went over the "rules" with her. She's a "good" kid (compared to others....) One of the rules...you can stay as long as your two girlfriends stay. Simple enough. Right? Not for a teenager who is having a good time and is afraid to call home when her friends leave thinking we'll make her come home too!! Wow, were we ANGRY when we found out her friends left @ 2:00 and it's now 7:30!!!!!!!! After the steam quit coming out of my ears and I thought about it, this is not the hill I want to die on! My husband & I realized we were kinda of dumbfounded...we've never really had any trouble with this child and it was so out of character it through us for a loop. That's probably why we over-reacted at first. We've all talked, apologies given and lessons learned (by both parties!) And I am now a proud owner of a cute little cell phone with unlimited texting... at least for the next 7 days!! LOL
Well you have to trust them to fail sometimes. I would say at least she stayed where she was and wasn't out carousing. I know you must have been worried sick, but I always breath a sigh of relief once the fear has subsided. The cell phone is a great idea. It is like an electronic leash. I probablly wouldn't mind it having a gps locator too so I can find them when I am worried!
