Today, we had a sunrise service at our church so I was able to attend my former church with my parents and siblings. When the invitation came, a man raised his hand admitting that he did not know Jesus. I kept my head down and continued to pray for the people who had raised their hands. The invitation was extended for those who would like to come forward and know Him to do so. One of the men came forward, and I heard Brother Patrick, the man who had lead me to the Lord, say, "Brother Chris, would you talk with this young man?" I looked up, grabbed my Bible and off we went. The man's name is John McDill. He had a brother that had almost lost his life a few days ago and this had brought John's own mortality to the front of his mind. He told me that he had made a profession of faith earlier on in his life, but he felt like he didn't mean it. I explained to him that it was more than just saying some prayer. We as believers must place our life in His hands and live for HIm. There is nothing that we can do to merit God's grace and that we deserved to go to a Christless hell. He understood what sin was and there was a penalty for that sin. I explained that Jesus paid that penalty with His own shed blood. He then asked if I would lead him in a prayer. I explained to John that it would be better for him not to ask Jesus into his life at all if he didn't mean it. He acknowledged that he was sincere and so we prayed. After, I prayed for John and that God would draw him ever closer to Himself. I also explained to John that this was a life exchange. He was going to give Jesus his old life and Jesus was going to give him a new life. With this new life, he would be able to grow closer to God through prayer, through Bible study, and through fellowshipping with God's people. I didn't even want to go. I was tired from being up late the night before, and then being at church at the crack of dawn this morning, I was tired. I will never get over the fact that God uses us, even when we least expect it. What a glorious day it has been! He is risen indeed! Brother Chris |
