What was he thinking? What would cause a person to do this? The whole assembly line was shut down for a week. Pretty impressive that Boeing was able to track it right back to the one that caused it.
Worker charged in Chinook vandalism incident. In continuing coverage from previous editions of Daily Launch, Bloomberg (5/21, Ratnam) reports, "A Boeing Co. worker was charged with vandalizing a military helicopter on the assembly line of a plant in the suburbs of Philadelphia," according to federal authorities. "Matthew K. Montgomery, of Trevose, Pennsylvania, admitted to cutting wires on one of two Chinook helicopters damaged at the Ridley Township facility" after the company "reassigned [him] to another line." A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said, "It's fair to say there was some dissatisfaction with the new assignment." The spokesman added that "[t]he court ordered that Montgomery undergo a psychological exam, participate in mental health counseling, 'live with his parents,' and avoid any contact with Boeing or its facilities." The AP (5/21, Dale) adds, however, that according to federal investigators "Montgomery is not currently a suspect in the second investigation," which stems from the discovery of a "suspicious washer" in another helicopter. The Philadelphia Inquirer (5/20, Panaritis, Burling) and the UPI (5/21) also report the story. |
