| Yard Bird and the Gas Can |
|
| |
Well folks, I’m back (for a little bit anyway) Still real busy with life in general, but I’m hoping to slow down real soon and spend some time with you all once again! Anyway, I got a call last week from an old buddy of mine named Terry (we used to call him Yard Bird cause he love eating chicken). Terry drives up and down the east coast delivering diesel fuel for this company, so he aint in town much. Before I proceed, I’d like to fill ya’ll in a little bit about Yard Bird and what type of guy he is. Here’s just a few clues, ya’ll can let yer minds wander from there. - Terry is the kind of fella that takes his wife to the Waffle House during anniversaries and other special occasions, cause his mamma will give them a discount and Terry feels like he’s getting some “home cookin.”
- Terry will smack you in the mouth for taking the Lord’s name in vain and for saying anything bad about his mamma or John Deere.
- Terry can flawlessly recite the entire chorus of Free Bird in two burps or less. Side note: His wife can burp it in perfect pitch.
- Terry has more cars than Baskin Robbins has flavors; and not one of them will crank. Yet he still spends more time with them cars than he does with his own family.
- Terry has a cardboard sign nailed to a tree with the word “WORMS” spray painted on it. Nobody knows why, and everybody is afraid to ask.
Anyway, here’s ole Yard Bird on the phone late last Monday night telling me that he’d ran out of gas two counties over, and he needed me to bring him a gas can full of diesel fuel to get him to the nearest truck stop. Like a true redneck pal, I told him to sit tight and I would be there shortly. An hour later, after I finished watchin wrassling, I headed on out to help. I couldn’t help but wonder why/how somebody who drove a gas truck could run out of gas. “Terry, how come you got thousands of gallons of gas in the tank behind the truck, and you call me out to bring you a five gallon can of gas?” He told me that he had a full tanker of diesel fuel but no way to pump it into his own truck. Well, ya’ll know how my mind works. I began to see this simple truth in my Christian walk. You see, there are often situations where I find need in my life. Sometimes I need money, other times I need strength. My needs range from clothing to wisdom. That’s when I realize my Source is always present. My Father knows what I need and when I need it; and unlike Terry’s situation, I have all the tools I need to tap into the Source! PHILIPPIANS 4:19 NKJ19. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Love to all, Rich |

Good to hear from our "Resident Redneck Sage." That title is yours even if you have been absent longer than we would like. But, hey, I don't see any mystery to the Worms sign. Looks to me to be two possibilities: either (1) He's selling worms (people around here do that - maybe in your neck of the woods everybody digs their own but we've even got them for sale in a little cardboard box down at the Little Corner Store next to the cold drinks), OR (2) He has a bad memory (strong possibillity sense he ran out of gas) and he put that sign there to remind himself of his favorite "worm patch" when he's ready to go fishing. Hope to see you around again soon! |

| Good to see you back. You know as Christians we all have God as our source,as close as your friend Terrys fuel in the tanker, but we often run out of gas, because we don't take the time to fuel up in Gods word,or talk with God.We get too busy in the digging up worms part of our lives |
