No, sadly, the sleeping bag is not very purple. So, my purple pillows do not match.

Side bar question...you are going to Mississippi on a missions trip, right?  Where does one sleep in Mississippi when on a missions trip?  I know you will sleep in the sleeping bag, but inside of what type of shelter does one use such a sleeping bag?
MaryAnn Hall
April 09, 2007

BRILLIANT Cathy!!! I just happen to be wearing a red sweater!!! I'll pop them together in the wash tonight.

DC, we'll be sleeping at the Gulport Armory (it's their Disaster Rebuild Operations Center).

Cathy, If I remember right, you can tie bunches of it together with plastic bags and you get a nice tie-dye effect...now, wouldn't MAry Ann look great in a purple tie-dye sleeping bag?!?!

You guys think it will be okay to put it in the wash? It's name brand is Columbia, it was manuafactured by Northpole Ltd and made in China. I'm concerned.

Mary Ann,

I have some camping gear, Coleman sleeping bag included, that is brand new (out of box) that I will never get to use since I got sick right after getting it. I've got a lantern, heater and some other stuff. I know that my wife has promised the $220 Eureka tent to a local Christian Boy Scout troop (sorry). But for the rest of the stuff, I would like to donate it to C3 if you all could use it. It is not good to me anymore and I need to get the basement cleaned out. My wife said let it all go minus the tent.

If you, Pastor Dan, Cathy D or whoever needs some of this, let me know.

Dave

P.S. I also have a nice 2004 Jeep Rubicon (lifted on 31s with extra underbody armor) if anybody is looking for a 2 door soft-top TJ style. Sorry, I can't donate that though. I need $$$s for a wheelchair van. LOL

April 09, 2007

Rita, you don't like purple? DANG!!! Actually, that's cool. More purple for me :-) What about chocalate?

Jan, oohhh, great idea. A purple tent!!! We're sleeping indoors though... still, a PURPLE tent would be awesome!!!

Dave, thank you for the VERY generous offer brother... I've asked Pastor Dan to jump in here and respond. Your sleeping bag wouldn't happen to be purple, would it? :-)

You sure love purple. A can of spray paint makes your sleeping bag just right! I will have to get busy on the blogs now since you won't be on here as much for a week. Will you have some internet access?

In all seriousness, y'all are doing God's work down there. GIT R DONE for Jesus!

April 09, 2007

MaryAnn....Girlfriend you are the only person on MyChurch who could write a blog about a sleeping bag and get loads of stars and comments!  If any of us did this, forget it!

Anyway, more importantly then the sleeping bag itself, but where it is going.

Lord, Please bless the trip to Mississippi.  Please anoint your servants to do your will.  May they accomplish far more than they even set out to do, by your mighty power and strength.  I pray that you would use this team to bring salvation to the lost, homes for the homeless, and healing for the broken-hearted.  May they do all of this in Jesus Name to the Glory of God.

Mary Ann I love purple too but blue is my favorite. purple and blue goes good with red hair and hey that's what matters that we look good while we do what we do right. I'd like to have some purple and some blue leather for riding my bike. They'd see me coming for sure.

Using Keith's idea above, I tried to spray paint Mary Ann's sleeping bag. It came out quite nice actually, but I can't seem to paste it here, so, Mary Ann, you will just have to imagine it a very nice shade of purple...

OK folks, let's do this the easy way....

Can somebody PLEASE just give Mary Ann some red colored sunglasses? Then her sleeping bag will look purple. LOL

For the rest of you reading this blog, I want you to start asking Mary Ann questions about purple. Everything you ever wanted to know can be found at the following link:

MaryAnn;

You are so funny girl!  I am blessed to be able to read your blogs and am looking forward to more when you get back with all the juicy details of your missions trip to Mississipi (every time I say mississippi I spell it out m-i-ss-i-ss-i-pp-i! lol)  That is such a wonderful missions trip!  Good for you for being apart of it and doing the good works for Jesus!  Bless you ten folds.  I prayed the prayer with Sue's comments too!

I LOVE PURPLE - I just can't wear it!  Plus I love pink, but my husband doesn't like pink on me - I still wear it though for my own satisfaction!)  I love all colors though!

Ok, here is a "roughing it" story...my wife and I were doing some mission work in southern Mexico just on the Guatamala border. We were with a team that was working the mountain villages.  The area is jungle in the valleys, but arid at the top of the mountains.  We stayed above the jungle line.  Most nights we slept outside.  You would zip your sleeping bag all the way shut and wrap it around your head. There were a lot of insects, animals, and sometimes rain, so you always made sure you were well covered.

At one location where we stopped, there was an old, decrepid, run down shed. A couple of guys were tired of sleeping out "in the elements" and decided it was time to sleep in the shed.  Did I forget to mention that scorpions were pretty common, too?

Well, in the wee hours of the night, my wife and I, sleeping peacefully under the stars, hear one of the guys get up and walk out in the woods to do his personal business. He returns and slips into his sleeping bag.  Within about 5 seconds we hear a piercing scream.  Both guys are jumping and running and end up knocking the old shed over.

We all ran over there to see what had happened. The one guy, upon returning to his sleeping bag, thought he felt a scorpion inside of it, got scared, ended up waking the other guy up who panicked, and both were yelling because the other one was yelling and they ended up crashing into the wall of the shed and knocking it over.

There was no scorpion....and after all the noise, there were no animals within miles to bother us for the rest of the night. We all laughed about that night for a long time.  Still makes me smile to think about it.

I'm with Cathy on the slow room service, that's rough stuff!  LOL

Cute story DC,  I would have been the screaming one (no actually I don't think I could have slept in an old shed - or outdoors, I guess I would have been hooped.  lol.

PatorDATM, those red sunglasses are the BOMB!!! What a simple solution!!! But, alas, the sleeping bag will still be more blue than purple once the glasses come off.

David the Beloved, I'm doing my penance now dude :-) I'm suffering with my almost purple bag.

aaallleen, no time now to pick up purple bag liners...great suggestion though.

Rosie, you would look AWESOME in purple leather!!!

Keith and Jan, I'll be with Mark Wigley...and he ALWAYS GITs R DONE for Jesus!!! Praise God... I'm just grateful to participate. :-) Thank you for the encouragement.

Rita, you meanie :-) Hey, your daughter has great taste!!!

Cathy, sistah, you can come over any time and lay hands on my sleeping bag. You have the key :-) But, to quote my dear brother Michael (LOL!!!), "Blessed are they who have not seen, but believe"

Mike and Sue: you 2 are the reigning C3 blogging champions!!! Thanks for humoring me :-) And, thank you for your prayers.

tracylea and DC, thank you for sharing your camping stories here... :-) DC, you're a brave man...married to a VERY brave woman...scorpions? YIKES!!!

Wow, it's good it's bright color, could you imagine if it was camo, way too easy to lose in the woods. Then you have the problems with all those animals getting used to warm beds, and invading camping stores in search of their own sleeping bags, and well you know, camo is just way too complicated!!!!!!

Dear Heavenly Father we ask that you surround Mary Ann and those going with her to this area Your Perfect grace..Lord give them strength to do whatever is needed.  Give them wisdom to share YOUR Word so that others may know YOU too!!!  We thank you Lord and give you Praise for all that you continue to do in our lives.  In Jesus' name we pray!!!

LOL!!! You can't see panties Rita!!! You are so funny :-)

I'll provide you with photographic evidence of the sleeping-bag's continued existence later tonight :-)

Okay, gotta get back to work now. Lunch time is OVER ;-(

Heeeheeeheee!!! Rita, you are correct!!!  Woe, a window would have been nice. :-) ... However, the weather was great so it wasn't to stink'n steamy...

April 25, 2007
I MUST SAY THAT  BAG DOES LOOK MORE  BLUE THAN PURPLE NOW YOUR SHIRT LOOKS PURPLEISH  I BET YOU COULD MAKE A FORTUNE OFF EBAY WITH THAT BAG SINCE IT'S SO POPULAR.  JUST A THOUGHT. LOL
Dave Hamm
April 25, 2007
And if you put your sleeping bag up for auction on eBay (great idea Rosie, huge funds for the Kingdom!), don't forget to direct everyone here to your blog on MyChurch and ask them to sign up while they are visiting. Being a member at MyChurch (or is it being a friend of Mary Ann's) that just might increase the value of what they are selling. :) Hmmmmm... LOL
MaryAnn Hall
April 25, 2007

I left myself wide open for wrinkle jabs :-) I thought Cathy Diemer would be the first to comment on that... she's picking her hubby up from the airport right now. We had Romans bible study together earlier this evening with Pastor Dan, TOMA... and some non-mychurch C3ers.

Sell my sleeping bag? OH NO!!! I LOVE MY SLEEPING BAG!!!

this is a tactic used on E-bay to outbid the $12.00 bidder :)

MaryAnn Hall
April 26, 2007
Oh Sue, you do e-bay? Cool!!! What have you sold there?Hey, how about I throw in the attractive and versatile net sleeping bag tote. I used it as a laundry bag in Mississippi. It is sparking clean and bounce fresh now… as is the sleeping bag. Will that up the bid?
Dennis Howe
April 26, 2007

WOW.

I'll go $12.76 with the versctile net tote bag.......haha :)

Mary Ann,

I think this might be an issue, referring to your and your bag as a "historic artifact" !!!!!!! I don't think I would have gone there myself............

Carol Suh
April 26, 2007
I think the fact that it's used by Mary Ann AT the MS missions trip actually increases the value!  Which makes me think sitting on it is the right strategy for investing here..
Dennis Howe
April 26, 2007

Sitting on it? How will that increase it's value, doesn't wear and tear decrease the value? I'm getting so confused, historic artifacts, sitting on things, and it's not even PURPLE !!!!!!

Dave Hamm
April 26, 2007

20 stars, over 1500 reads, and still counting! This has got to be a MyChurch record for a blog!

I would like to suggest that all of us pitch in a nice donation for the MS effort and give it to Mary Ann to be delivered to the MS relief efforts. In return, Mary Ann autographs the picture and the sleeping bag. Then, I would propose that those two items be submitted to some museum that stores artifacts of technology. In another 100 or so years, the folks flying around in their anti-gravity suits going to work can look on their 3D super-HDTV's monitor in their helment at the history of a 2006 Christian website called MyChurch.org and see how a wanna-be PURPLE sleeping bag changed history!

Daniel Beasley
April 26, 2007

Dennis, I know it's your birthday (happy birthday, btw!) but don't be stirring stuff up...

And Carebear's right -- on Antiques Roadshow, they're always talking about an item's provenance, its origins and the story behind it, as making the real difference in something's price.

Dennis Howe
April 26, 2007

Aw shucks,

With all these comments...I hope I upped the correct figure :)  Yes, I used to sell used home school books on E-Bay.  I stopped a few years ago.  Then I used to just buy....but NOW there's MyChurch!  Saving me a bundle!  But now we are bringing E-Bay to Mychurch :)

MaryAnn Hall

Dennis, whatchatalk'n 'bout dude? Are you dis'n the bag blog? Grace to you (LOL!!!) and happy birth day too brother :-)

Carebear, Cathy, DC, you make me smile :-) Love to all mychurch family!!!

Pastor Dan, I can't help but notice, you have not graced the bag blog with a star. I think I will "just ask"... So, why? Is it the sleeping bag? Is it the color purple? Is it the dialogue? Is it me? Well, I thank you for your commentary just the same brother. Maybe you will consider adding a comment and/or star to the Mississippi Picture Blog? Better yet, how about you post a picture there of your relief work following Hurricane Katrina?

Hey Brightness, if you really need the bag, it's yours! Otherwise... I'll need to consider some of the other suggestions and offers here. :-)

a) Your sleeping bag is cool.

b)  Are you married?  I couldn't not tell by your profile.

C) If not - by being a blue sleeping bag person you may attract a red sleeping bag person and then then the two of you will be PURPLE :)

Cathy, we have a Seattle's Best in our building. Run by a Korean man who is a missionary. He led a team to Oman last year. Real missionaries, too. They go in teams of four. They took a cab to a little village in the middle of no where and started walking through the town knowing God would provide. They met people, were invited in to eat and stay and while there taught about the Gospel.  He is the one I buy my Lattes from, so I am not too sure I want to take away from him too much...oh, and I spend $4 a day, twice a week...OK!?!?!

Because it has been through 7 states, I'll go $27...wait, did I just raise my own bid?  Cathy, look what you made me do!!!

Cathy,

I am willing to "go together" with you on this and COMBINE our bids ($299.99 + $55) making it a nice sum of $354.99 which is about what ONE window costs these days.

Dave

MaryAnn Hall
April 30, 2007
Dang!!! I didn't want to have to do this... but, now I am forced to up Cathy's bid by $0.01 to a total of $300. Dave, how could you think of dividing the bag? It must stay intact! :-)
Dave Hamm
April 30, 2007

Cathy and Mary Ann,

Y'all got my $55 for the window donation. I'll contact you via message here to find out who to make the check out to and where to mail it.

Dave

P.S. I think perhaps the sleeping bag should be hung somewhere in your church. Somebody could stitch a nice scripture on it. Then hang it up like a wall banner. I bet Pastors Mark and Dan could come up with a lot of stories (and sermons) about the history of Mary Ann's sleeping bag.

Dennis Howe
April 30, 2007

OK, I'm going to send out a challenge ! I say everyone who bid take their highest bid, or if you really are daring take the highest bid, and match what hte highest bid was ! This would mean that Denise and maybe even someone else will get windows. Then I think you should hang the bag, among any banners you might have and let everyone thst see's the bag ask abot why a lowly sleeping bag would be given such honor. Mary Ann, I so appreciate your sacrifice, I know you really likes the sleeping bag, even if it wasn't purple.

I hope that the people who run into this on Google will understand the value of this bag, this blog, and Mychurch.org!

Dennis

MaryAnn Hall
May 02, 2007

I had just one Rabbit. His name was Bumper and he was blue/grey in color. Started out as Bonny, discovered Bonny was a boy, wanted to name him Thumper, changed it to Bumper (keeping the "B" sound in his name... to which he had already grown accustom).

I can't stand to see animals caged. So, eventually, I let Bumper have free range in our back yard and the fields behind our home. Soon, there were many mini-me blue/grey Bumpers hopping around the neighborhood. So adorable!!!

May 02, 2007

Isn't God awesome?

Somebody can mention a plain, dull, now used, blue sleeping bag and before long, we have a blog with 24 stars, 267 comments, and 2116 reads where everyone is talking about cute little bunnies hopping around the neighborhood; after talking about some plain, drab, white windows that are going to bless Dennise. Oh did I mention that, through all of this, Mary Ann needed a bag carrier, body guard, song writer and painter. I'd say that's a good mix of thoughts to keep us wondering if Mary Ann might end up in Hollywood doing some really odd sitcom based in a church about all of this.

Hurry! I need a script on my desk by 9 AM tomorrow morning. I think we have a million dollar movie in the making here!

What a great way to put MyChurch in front of everybody around the world! This movie will explain what goes on inside those four walls of a church when things start a rockin and a rollin!

Holy Spirit rain down on us and set us a laughin! We are the happiest people on earth!

Voice in DC
May 02, 2007

I think there is enough material on these blogs to generate a script especially using a little imagination. I mean, this is ALL public information, right? Just change the names to protect the innocent...oh, and I think those white windows are going to have a special glow about them that only those on MyChurch can see...

Signed,

Bag Carrier (and proud of it!)

Blogs have very limited graphic capability, Jan.  MyChurch has been working on it to make it easier, but sometimes it just isn't going to work.

Sometimes you have to paste it into something else - like Word, save it, then paste it to the blog. Sometimes that doesn't work either.  I have tried a multitude of things.  The process that does work all the time is to have it pasted from another website.  Easy to do if you have an active site.  Mary Ann did that for all her pictures.

No museum submission? ;) LOL

 April 26, 2007 at 2:40pm

Ann and I hiked at Glacier to one of the many lakes tucked back in the mountains. The one I remember is called Avalanche Lake. It was spectacular. We sat on one side of the lake at water's edge and ate our lunch while watching two bear cubs playing on the other side of the lake - far enough away to be safe, but close enough to see. It was awesome.

Yeah you are all still here and making plans for the location to start filming and Julia Roberts would be great for Mary Ann if she doesn't want to play herself. And then the merge of the red and blue bags to get the purple ones this is so awesome i think i'll cry for joy. Hey Mary Ann you and Cathy should come down here this fall we have a wine festival about 30 miles from where i live.

As an FYI, all I could think about after writing about the wine press with bare feet was the "I Love Lucy" show where Lucy and her neighbor, Ethel, were in the vat mashing grapes! LOL

Casting to begin soon for "Mary Ann's Bag of Diemermite" (from another blog).  Julia Roberts has agreed to play Mary Ann, but only if Richard Gere is the lead man...something about another movie they did together.  Rosie and I are the bag carriers. PastrorDATM is our explosives expert.  Jan, Cathy, and Carebear are detectives, similar to Charlie's Angels. Dennis is Charlie.  We are going to ask CJ to direct - cool glasses.  We are still missing a few players, so any other ideas?

Plot is that we are all on a missions trip to the country of Marnasia - a very poor island country 300 miles off the coast of New Zealand.  Dave finds a cave full of Diemermite made with a new explosive called C3 that only Dave and two other people knew about.  Dave calls his friend Charlie (cell phone coverage provided by Jack Bauer) who decides to have his best three detectives take on the job - they just happen to be on the island at the same time on another missions trip.  The first clue that Jan notices is...they all have purple sleeping bags...the story unfolds...
