As she completed her "budget confined" list she started browsing the sales isle. The dark small voice started in... " Don't you wish you had lived a little more freely with him? Don't you think maybe you were too cautious with the finances....and how about that summer vacation? Oh,....that's right....he got sick....and your "vacation" money became hospital money...how sad.....darn the luck." She could already feel the knot in her throat.
She grabbed her cart and wheeled it around to head to the check out line. It was a long line as usual and she had more then 20 items so she knew her wait was going to be a bit. She noticed a few young construction working men giving her "the look" she groaned in disgust she grabbed her cell phone and opened..."Well, hello handsome" she said loudly to make sure this conversation was being heard. "No, babe I'll be home soon"...she put on her fake smile and giggled..."oh, stop you're so naughty....okay I'll see you soon." More giggling..."bye" before she completely closed her phone it started ringing...her construction working audience was amused as she answered this SUDDEN call. "Hello?" she said embarassed and annoyed "Hey gurl did I catch you at a bad time?" "Oh, Pastor Mac no, not at all I'm just checking out at the store...what can I do for you?" Her "audience" finally left and she was next in line to check out. "Oh, I was just calling to remind you practice is tonight at 7 and you'll be on the Korg with a mic too." "Awe, I see she said slightly nervous all of a sudden...do you know the line up?" "Not off the top of my head but, there are a couple of new songs I want to get down before we leave tonight and the rally is in 2 weeks." "Okay...well, I'm gonna come early so you can show me the new stuff and I can get it down better." "You were always good about that....I'll be here all day so you show up anytime." "Thanks... I'll get my grocery's home and see you soon then." "Sounds great gurl take care!" As she hung up the phone and started to place her items on the counter she remember the countless rally's for prayer, praise and worship that "They" had put on together for the teens. She could see his face getting ready to take his place behind the drum kit and he always winked at her..."$40.32...ma'am...." she quickly shook off the memory of him...."uh I'm sorry what?" The cashier responded "$40.32 ma'am..." She paid with her card grabbed her bags and made her way out the door.
