| Staph Infection |

Three weeks ago my 3 and a half year old son (Dayson) began to struggle with a mild fever with no other symptoms. After three days, we brough him in and the doc said "virus." We treated the fever and it went away...for a couple days. Then it came back in the 102's. We continued to treat the fever and it would break but return. Still no othere side effects.
Last week thursday we were wrestling when he began to cry terribly about a pain in his neck. That night his fever broke 103. From that point the medicine stopped breaking the fever. It would drop to 100 plus. A growth appeared on the right side of his neck and then also on the left about the size of a golf ball. We called the doc...insisted virus but his fever hit 103.7 and he was in constant pain and not responding to us anymore so we ER'd him...turns out just in time.
In the ER his fever hit 104.5 and spiked at 108 (no exxageration). They took a CT scan and found major bacterial infections (turned out to be staff) in his neck and spine. They mass loaded him with several types of antibiodics and steroids to what for two days seemed to no avail. They gave him one more night to respond before the surgical team went in and began to "assist" him in what were very complicated surgeries do to the placement of the infections.
My son was so swollen he was hardly recognizable. That night his fever broke. Though the antibiodics were causing side effects (rash, etc) the docs insisted they were saving his life and by God's grace they did. He will be recovering for some time but we are so grateful for God's mercy. The high fever did not damage him either...thank God.
I have been absent from mychurch for sometime and will continue to be unfortunately b/c my wife and daughter and now son are struggling with their health. We are hardpressed on every side...
Anyways, he got the staff infection from the nursery. Pastors. nursery workers...whoever...I cannot stress the importance of sanitizing the toys after every service and the need for a "sick-baby" policy. It is difficult to turn away the mother of a sick child but it is necessary.
Thankyou for all the concern some of you have showed. I do get the messages I just don't have time to respond.
God bless |

Wow Patrick, that is so unbelievable! (But I believe you!) That is the exact same thing that brought our Pastor DATM to within an inch of meeting our Maker! Prayers for your family, as well as praises to our loving kind Father for healing your son....it seems somewhat miraculously using natural means! ~mike
ps... thanks so much for this post, when you disappear we grow concerned! |

Oh Patrick! You and your family are in my prayers. I can't imagine. There are so many viruses going around. My son has had fevers that won't go away and come and go...but we have not had any of the lumps, Praise God. I am with you 110% on the Nursery santizing!!!! It isn't enough to just lightly wipe. For those churches that have more than one service...the toys played with in the first serivce should be removed until they can be properly sanitized. Just spraying down or "wet wiping toys just isn't enough these days. Please! Don't bring your sick children to church! It's not acceptable for daycare...so why church? (sorry...one of my soap box things) God's Blessings on you! |

Oh my gosh, Patrick, how scary! I am praying for you all, but especially hard for your son and the doctors. I'm a health-nut myself and even work for a non-caustic product company, so I have learned a lot over the years and understand the importance of cleanliness! Many (sanitary) hugs! :) Delle |

UPDATE 1 Jun 08
Thank you guys for all your prayers...little man is doing well. He should be totally released in a couple of weeks. Looks like the staph is gone...thank God. It is very difficult to watch one so little be in so much pain. It broke my heart to see him like that...like my little girl all over again but God is good and His hand is upon us...
I do so miss the fellership here on mychurch...but staying in our home is quite difficult so I am working around the clock.
Ministry is crazy...but worth it!!! |
