| Memorial Day Thoughts |
|
| |
Memorial Day is very sad to me -- to remember the untold millions of human beings who have been killed by other people in mankind's wars. Just think of the tremendous pain we humans have intentionally inflicted on each other -- all the young lives slaughtered and all the sickening grief of their loving family members. It is an awful tragedy that we humans frequently choose sides and mercilessly rain down horrible violence and destruction on one another. I often think of the Vietnam War Memorial, all those names of people my age, who were robbed of their right to life by the wrong of war. Many of them felt they had no choice. They were drafted, sent away to kill and die in a foreign land, and told by society that not to go would be cowardice. You would think that people would hate war -- this terrible thing that has been so cruel to us through out our human history! But instead we sing its praises and glorify it. However, if we would remember wars with tears and grief, instead of with joy and boasting, perhaps war would not be so common. This Memorial Day I wish war was only a memory instead of an every present reality on planet Earth. |

| I see where you're coming from Steve, and certainly I can relate...but on the flip side of that I guess I have to remember that if it was't for those lives that were lost in war, we probably wouldn't have the freedom to express ourselves...even here on MyChurch. |

| MarJay: The vast majority of wars in human history haven't been about freedom at all. |

| That may be true my friend...but somebody paid the price for freedom of speech. Does that make it right???? Do I glory in their deaths???? Without out a question....*No*. I'm saddened like yourself, that so many people have had to die by other people in mankinds wars. |

| MarJay: Unfortunately, we in America have forgotten some of our bravest freedom fighters: Nat Turner, Denmark Vesey (I am not certain of the spelling of his last name), the runaway slaves, the heroic Native Americans who fought for their freedom, the abolitionists and those who died in that movement, those who spoke out against and were murdered by the KKK, and many others. |
