| A Familar Sound ~Takes Me Back |
|
| |
It's 6:20 am and I'm awakened by a familiar sound! Its the sound of a robin, chirping in a bush, outside my bedroom window. I laid there for a few minutes, just listening to the beautiful sounds... Then it happened!
My memory, takes me rushing back to when I was 8 years old. I'm on my Great Grandparents farm. It's summer time and I'm awakened by the same familiar sound! A robin chirping, in a tree, outside the bedroom window. The bed is big and comfy and I hear Grandpa and Grandma in the bedroom next to me. They are whispering, as they get dressed, for the day ahead of them...
Down the stairs in a hurry, to wait for breakfast and the adventures a new day. As I got to the doorway of the kitchen, I see Grandma at the table, churning butter. She was using the cream from the milk from the previous day. She asked me, If I would like to try, while she fixed my breakfast. Grandpa was getting his boots on and was going to the barn, to milk the cows. I hollered at him... I will be out to help you!..he was a little hard of hearing. He wore a hearing aid...
As I was headed out to the barn. I found Duke, the collie dog, waiting with his tail a wagging. He loved to get his nose rubbed and scratched. As Duke and I ran down the side walk, I stopped to get a drink from the well. The water was good and cold...
I skipped to the barn, with Duke running behind me. I stood at the door way of the barn, to see that Grandpa, was about done milking one of the cows. There were cats all lined up, waiting to be fed. While milking one of the cows, he shoots milk right in the cats mouth! I laughed out loud and spooked the cow that Grandpa was milking! With his rough deep voice, he asked if I would like to try to milk the cow..
So down on the little milking stool I sat and got hold of that long hangin down thing and I didn't like the feel of that thing... So I told Grandpa, he better milk the cows and ran out of the barn...I guess that was my first and last time of me milking the cows...
Duke and I went and sat down, by the old chicken coop and wonder what we could do the rest of the day..On my Great Grandparents farm... |
