I loved playing hide and seek when I was a kid. Sometimes instead of counting we would have a rhythmic call to identify anyone that was still trying to find a hiding place "Apple's, peaches, pumpkin pie, whose not ready holler I?" and if you were not ready you yelled, "I" and were then given more time to hide, and if nobody responded, the "seeker" went looking for the hiders. When was the last time as adults you were invited over to your closest friend's house for a good game of Hide and Seek?

Historically, the first game of Hide and Seek took place back in the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, they hid themselves from God. God came walking in the cool of the day and said
"Adam where are you"? Adam's response was "I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself" (Genesis 3:9,10 Read Chapter) There are a lot of effects that sin has on our lives. One of them is hiding ourselves from God because of the shame we feel. We distance ourselves from God because we want to avoid the face of a disappointed loving father whom we have failed. But once it's not dealt with, sin results in neurotic behavior with the desire to be punished. One woman I spoke to about this said that she used to throw herself violently on the floor-assuming that self-flagellation or "punishing herself for her sins" would work.
God shouldn't have to be the "Seeker" in our lives. God's calling us to seek Him first. He says in His word
Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. (Read Chapter) In other words, God is like a big kid hiding behind a skinny tree, not very hard to find at all.
What are the rewards for seeking God first? Well, He promises that we will never have to worry about what we will eat or drink and I take great comfort in that, especially in our current economic climate.
Are you seeking God or is God seeking you?
As Paul personalized his words to the Philippians church, so I echo those same words to you:
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Read Chapter)
