You know what is amazing to me...  knowing people that have been in church for years and have never read the Bible from Genesis - Revelations.  How can we be like Christ if we don't read what He did and who He is?  It is not like the Bible is hidden or too expensive to have...  Come on!!! We can get it for free in many churches!!! or go to a hotel for a night and read it there.

Hey, we can read it daily, we can read it in 90 Days, we can read it in a Year, we can even read it in the internet; we can hear it in CD, we can hear it in IPod, we can even see it on TV.

I’ve learned that the answers to my deepest questions are in His Word.  Why going to somebody else when the answer is on my night table or under my arm?

As I was reading your blog a Scripture came to mind. It is Jeremiah 20:9 which states, "Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word  was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not". My prayer is let God's Word burn in my heart.

Mike, "Conversely, how dare we ignore or neglect them! Let’s just say, I am continually convicted!"
You have spoken my exact thoughts reading your blog.  God's Word is life, but how often I fail to open that life giving book.  Thanks for the reminder to open it again and again to find the Words of life!

Mike and Pastor Tim, I couldn't agree with you more!  Such wonderful words from God's own heart; their wisdom and beauty never cease to amaze me.  This is such a good blog!

Mike, thank you for promoting the importance of reading the Bible and really "getting" these words in us.  This reminds me of some wonderful lyrics to a song by Don Moen:

"Carve upon my heart, the truth that sets me free!  According to your word O LORD, be it unto me."

Every bit of knowledge that we need to know to live our lives 'unto him' is in that precious book and it grieves me to know that so many are sitting on shelves collecting dust, unfortunately, even in the homes of those who call themselves Christians.  I don't believe you can separate God from his word, so having the Bible is having God with us.  We can have him in Spirit and in Truth -

... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them
                          that ask him?                 (Luke 11:13b)

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
                                                               (John 17:16b)

Yes, love this word, for it truly is LIFE to us!  Amen.

Ooh Linda! How great that you stopped by! How are you? (It's been a while, can you tell? lol) Your comment is precious, thank you!! I so appreciate your love for the truth of God's word, your comment is saturated with it! Great scripture passages you posted too!

Glenn, that conviction hurts just a little, doesn't it? I've felt that myself, quite a bit in fact!

Let me say to all, that one thing that has REALLY helped me lately is the practice I wrote about in this blog, "Keeping his words near my heart". It's really been very empowering, may I encourage you to try it? (Assuming you aren't doing so already? And please forgive me if I mis-assume!)

I don't know where I'd be without His Word........it's my comfort, my joy, my conviction, my tool for helping others, my help, my strength when I'm weak........geeeee, I could go on and on.

Praise God that His Word is eternal!!  It is so important that we commit His word to memory.  The way our world is heading, I'm not sure how much longer we might have ready access tio His written word.

Mike have you ever thought about this? Jesus is the word made flesh.  The logos.  He is eternal and immutable.  His word and Himself are inseparable.  God is not a man that He should lie.  His word is alive as He is alive and it can not be killed.  All man can do is not to heed the word, but it doesn't make mankind any less accountable, we all are responsible for the truth whether heeded or not.

Now that is a thought that resonates w/me, Shirley! It is indeed important that we memorize his word! That way we can take it anywhere, meditate on it anywhere, share it with anyone!

Todd, I admire how your comments are always saturated with scripture. Memorized? Or do you just know right where to look on biblegateway.com? :-)  ...I don't recall thinking of it in quite that way, which is why I'm so glad you posted that thought! God bless you brother!

What a great word Mike -   I can never be reminded too often of the power of His Words, and how they are written permanently , all things will soon pass away, but not my father or His word. thanks again.

And his word is a living word, which means the words he speaks to us today--right now will be as eternal as the words of our bible.  Now that is a blessing that remains--his word never changes!

How beautiful is the Word of God...I have read the Bible through many times, and each time I learn something new and it speaks new truths to me. Almost 5 years age, I got married. During that time I determined that my husband and I should have a daily time of reading together. We started many times, but after a weeks, he lost interest.

Last July, my husband got reinfused with the joy of his salvation. He intiated a devotional time together, and on July 3rd, we will have read through the Bible together for the first time. I asked him why it happened this time, and he said that all the other times he was doing it just to please me, but this time, he was doing it out of hunger for God's Word.

All that to say this - our marriage has totally changed just from spending time together in God's Word each night. His Word contains everything we need to sustain our life, our marriage, our children, our ministry, etc., etc., etc.

Thanks for the scripture. We were just reading that the other night, and I was amazed the Jeremiah was able to recreate the message in its entirety...but then again, it was not Jeremiah's word, it was God's Word...all scripture is given by the inspiration of God, as men yielded their pens to His use...why would God say something different the second time around?

Just a thought.
