As Christians, we are willing to go through trials for the name of Jesus. We know we will have many as they are a resource for us to grow into the image of Christ. We all know many examples Jesus gave us as He endured in life. Seasons come and go; however, some of the walk/trials we are called to can easily be paralleled to Jesus Crucifixion season.
Before the last supper began, terror and the trial had already opened in Jesus' life. (Luke 22-24) During this time Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane with such fervency some scholars debate if the sweat-drops that beaded on Jesus' brow was indeed true blood that perspired from the intense trauma and seeking of our Savior for God's will and Sovereignty in this season. Jesus prayed for this cup to pass. When Jesus needed support, comfort, love, companionship, fellow prayer warriors...no one was able, they all slept. Jesus only had God. Jesus was 100% man handling the call on this season of His life, the hardest season in His life. At a time when life was shattering, every direction uncertain, the outcome unbearable, Jesus turned to His Father...... The Anchor Holds.
Many lessons exist in the Crucifixion Season of Jesus' life; however, the greatest lesson I needed lately was the lesson of Patience.
1:4 And let patience have `its' perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.
"...it's perfect work..." (James 1:4) what does that mean? Not to sound disgruntled...but is it to my detriment?
As I only leaned on God, Patience wrapped itself around me and a deep, sweet enrichment enhanced my world.
What does the Bible say about Patience?
I want to invite you to a study on this. Even though we will look at Old testimant Patience, this will be a quick four day study.
When going through more-than-enough in life, adding one more item....even a Bible study, can be overwhelming.
If you have time enjoy the following:
William Wilberforce:
William Wilberforce, a man who was renoun for his place in removing from England the guilt of the African slave trade, and prepared the way for the abolition of slavery in every Colony of the Empire, spent 19 long years to reach that goal.
Ending the slave trade in the motherland was not enough for him. He continued to push for legislation that would abolish slavery throughout the British Empire. This would not happen for another 37 years-the passing of the vote was granted 3 days before he died.
Lorenzos Oil:
The sobering look on their 5-year old child's face as he lay dying from a disease not even the top physicians in the United States began to understand. A new stran of terror engulfed this family. His father, uncultered in medical research missioned the pioneer salvation for his child and ultimately every child diagnosed thereafter.
Job:
The book of Job is engulfed in tragedy and how God sees our life struggles in His ultimate and infinate plan. God is loving and faithful throughout this time to Job. Job looses everything in life...status, reputation, family, servants, home, business, career, wealth, friends.
Goldie:
Tall, shoulder-length red-headed curly hair sculpt her mono-toned expression on her fair skined face. Leaving the court room, again, justice has let her down. Her daughter would have to have supervised visits with her father, a convicted child sexual predator. The battle would ensue legally until the child collapses on the floor of the counseling office from exhaustion and later begins self-mutilating. This is after the now single-mother leaves her home for safety after she was almost murdered by being kicked in the chest and stomach until she slipped into a black comfort and passed out. While being beaten for hours in what was suppose to be the safety of her own home with her husband, she was pregnant and lost a child she had prayed for and desired with all her young heart. She took her daughter and left her home and all her property for their safety. She didn't even have a hair brush to comb her daughter's long red hair that next morning. This safety battle continued as she was stalked for 6 more times and left her home again after he was out side her window. He contacted two of the child's schools in a effort to abduct the child. Many more things have happened to this legally-proven innocent mother....her life has died as she only focuses on what her child needs for her to grow up in a safe, stable environment. After 6 years, the battle continues.....until when though...the young daughter is 18 yrs old? The mother is steadfast in her faith and trust in the Lord to continue this walk until it's completion.
Let's Pray: Father, as painful or tired or whatever emotion we have right now, we come to you. I pray that you would not remove this cup fro mus but to help us grow closer to you and be able to laugh at life's trials and see them as you do. May we come and fall into your embrace. May only your touch be on our life. Open our eyes Lord and prepare our hearts...we want to see Jesus.
