| Abraham's Faith |

I once heard a good illustration of this (Hebrews 11:11). We are too prone to ooh and awe over Abraham's faith (don't get me wrong, we commend his faith just as Hebrews does).
If I have faith in my doctor (let's pretend I do ;) ), who does that reflect? Am I something special because I have faith in my doctor OR does it reflect how good my doctor is to deserve so much trust? To have faith is God does not make us great - it simply shows the greatness of God who is the object of our faith.
We call people like Abraham "heroes of the faith." When in reality, Abraham simply placed faith in the One who is worthy of all trust and faith. Abraham lived the way that any believer should live. A.W. Tozer once said that the Spirit-filled life should not be looked at as some special class of Christian-living, but as what should be normal of any Christian.
11:11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. |
