| Put Your Behind in the Past |

3:13 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. How many of you remember watching the Lion King? Two of the most profound scenes from that movie come from Simba learning to deal with his past. Of course Simba felt responsible for his father's death and fled into a far away land where he met up with his two new friends Timon and Pumba. Simba was explaining that he could not return to his home, because of his past. Pumba, the lovable Warthog said: "You've gotta put your behind in your past." What great advice huh? Turn your back to the past and face forward and move on. Quit living in the past! We have to live in the present and what we do in the present will determine our future!
Now the second scene and tremendous lesson is that when Raffikki the Baboon encountered Simba after many years of thinking Simba was dead. He hit Simba in the head with his stick and Simba, said, "Ow what did you do that for? That hurts!" Raffiki responded, "Yes the past can hurt. But the way I look at it, you can either run from it or learn from it." Raffiki then immediately takes another swipe at Simba and Simba ducked out of the way! "See you learned from it. Now what you gonna do?" Those of you familar with the story knows Simba went back to fulfill his purpose and destiny. The past can hurt, but we must learn from the hurts and the mistakes of the past. We are to look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Set our heads like a flint and not to look back. God tells us that He knows the plans that He has for us. Plans for good and not for evil. Plans to give us a future and a hope. Others may have been used of the Devil to hurt and hinder us, but we are over-comers by the blood of the Lamb and by the Word of our testimony. God can take our past hurts and failures and turn them into huge blessings for others if we will only keep moving towards our destiny.
So press on, just like the Apostle Paul urged us to and strain forward. Your divine purpose and destiny awaits!
God Bless, Todd |

| Happen's to be one of my favorite movies...and those happen to be two of my favorite scenes. Especially...the second one. Great take on our verse today Todd...sometimes...well, more often than sometimes, I think letting go of the past has got to be one of the hardest things to do in this life. |

Thank you, all for your kinds comments. Valarie no doubt that it is hard to let go of the past, because it has shaped us into the person we are today and we are where we are in life because of our past, BUT if we dwell on the past it will certainly effect our future. This verse comes from Paul where he was giving his testimony about his religious heritage, and what ever he had counted as gain to him he had to give it up for what Christ gave Him was greater and better than anything this world had to offer. Often times we think of the past as our failures, but even our successes can hold us back. I agree though totally, that it is one of the hardest things to do is letting go of the past. Great comment! Thank you! |

| yes, the past is a very hard thing to let go of.........no matter how far you have come in Christ, if you are not careful, the past will creep up on you......sometimes it is in a song, a tv show, an old friend you haven't seen in years, some one who knew some of the dumb things you did, in a conversation with your family members...or when you and you mate are having a heated discussion and (ooops) you say something that you shouldn't have said(mean old nasty flesh wanting to lash out and hurt)........but thank God for his patience, grace, mercy and forgiveness....Thank Jesus for the precious atoning of his blood and the Holy Spirit that is always comforting, teaching and guiding us.... |
