| Day 1: Patience~Yuck! |

Patience
- Who really enjoys learning about this Fruit of the Spirit?
- Just what does Patience mean?
- Why do we need it so much it was listed as a attribute to our life as a Fruit of the Spirit? {Gal. 5: 22-23}
1:4 And let patience have `its' perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.
Let's begin with going to our Father in prayer; Father, thank you for opening this Bible Study to us Lord. Thank you Father for your wisdom and provision as we go through hard trials in life. We come to you and ask that you prepare our hearts and give a spirit of learning and humble us before you Lord. Open our eyes and ears...we want to see Jesus. Teach us your ways and truth. Give us your understanding and wisdom. In Jesus name we ask these things, Amen.
Patience:
Noun: Good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence. (Websters-online-dictionary.org; 2001, Wordnet 1.7.1}State of being: the ability to endure waiting, delay, or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset, or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties. {Wikipedia.org; 2004, 5th Edition}Greek Definition {New Testiment}
// upomonh // hupomone // hoop-om-on-ay' //
Adverb - patience 29, enduring 1, patient continuance 1, patient waiting 1; 32
1) steadfastness, constancy, endurance 1a) in the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings 1b) patiently, and steadfastly 2) a patient, steadfast waiting for 3) a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance {Apostilic-churches.net; Strong's Greek Dictionary; #5281.}
Hebrew Definition {Old Testiment} The noun patience, though a significant ancient concept in the Hebrew Scriptures, is not found in the King James Version of the Old Testiment. Instead, Patience is found as an adjective patient. One of the first uses of the word is significant in the early Biblical listing of the attribute of God:
34:6 And Jehovah passed by before him, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness and truth,
"Slow to anger" has also been translated to "longsuffering" which is the most common used Old Testiment to indicate patience.
Trying to understand the definition of Patience muchless the 'whys' and 'hows' of the need for patience in our life can potentially be exhausting and we will cover more ground on that tomorrow. As a refreshment, today we have a guest speaker who adds a delightful light on this topic. A very close friend of mine, also a member of MyChurch;Steven Anthony has a wonderful addition to this study:

{Thanks Steven for your contribution}
~See you tomorrow |

Most likely what we didn't know ;according to Smith Wigglesworth and his meetings that were trnascibed into books. He had pointed out that each Fruit (Gal 5:22) corresponded to the Gifts (1 Cor12) There are 9 gifts and 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit. He laso pointed out that the gifts listed in order match the fruits listed in order . Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (KJV) And the Gifts:
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: So for ex. Love listed as number one matches Wisdom Joy listed as number two matches Kowledge and so forth in successive order. Now a little bit about Smith was he raised the dead and prayed and healed anyone who came for healing ;provided they wanted it. He gave all the glory to God the father thru Jesus and was very humble. He was one of the greats similar to John G. Lake. Smith was adamant to say donot use the gifts without the fruit as well. Rmartel |

Patience, like any other fruit of the spirit has to be in the right environment to grow. And the only time patience gets growing is when we're put under pressure and want something, and want it NOW! But NOW in the form of patience is saying "not yet", and that's when your patience gets pushed to the surface and gets tested to see if its ripened enough to be mature about it.
Good word Cheryl, how ya diddlin today? |
|
|
| He's really been working on patience with me. I love the saying "God grant me patience... NOW!" Cuz that's me. I'm the microwave gal, 30 seconds is too long ;) But yeah He's REALLY been working in me about this. i am very impatient and short tempered. It's improving... slowly but surely.. |

Patient is what you call someone in a hospital. You certainly need patience when you are in one. Time drags. No one seems in a hurry to keep you up-to-date. Then there is the stress of the unknown or unfamiliar.
No takes a vacation in a hospital (intentionally). It is not somewhere you want to go to. For the only way to get in is to have a serious problem or health conditon. It is not somewhere you want to go but it certainly is somewhere you are glad is there when you need it.
In our spiritual journey, growth there are things we need to experience that we really don't want to. Moses did not choose a forty year exile from Egypt. Daniel did not choose captivity nor Joseph the many wrongs done against him. That thing that has touched your life or you are experiencing now that you really don't want but GOD allows will either make you shine or wear you down.
It is easy to confuse emotions with the fruit of the Spirit. Love is a way of life not a state of continous "warm fuzzies". Joy is determined by what is going on within not without. Peace is not the absence of conflict but rather the presence of unity. And patience, long-suffering is not evidenced by a continous smile painted on your face as the storms of life batter you. It is not always good natured. Sometimes it gets annoyed or upset.
Paul said it like this...
For which cause we faint not (don't give up), though the outward man (including emotions) perish, yet the inward man (spiritual) is renewed day by day.
Patience is the ability to go thru things that we cannot in our own strength. As a patient in a hosptial looks to doctors for answers and to fix what is wrong, even so we as christians experience times when life is out of our hands and in His. It is not always pleasant. Sometimes it hurts. But patience realizes there is a purpose and a reason for every tear we shed and fully puts its' trust in GOD.
And when life is more than we can bear there is His intensive care. Perhaps patience is not something we do but what we are (patients).
Good blog, Cheryl, made me think.
.....peace..... |

| Great blog.....I struggle with patience, LOL |

THEREFORE being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace where we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
So what I do my sister is this....I count it all JOY.....knowing that the trying of my faith worketh patience.....
and I let patience have her perfect work, that *I* may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing! (James 1:2-4).....
