| Update: Would You Pray For My Cat? |
|
| |
I know some of you may not know how it feels to have a pet that is your best friend. Some do though, so you will understand what I am going through right now.
My best friend, Zagnut, is a cat that I have had since he was a baby, and he is 12 years old now. He is having problems with his gums and not eating...has lost four pounds. I took him to the vet and found that he has infections in his gums, but that is not all they found wrong. They did a routine blood panel and found that his kidneys are not functioning at the level they should be. The vet seems to think they can turn this around. He is not in kidney failure yet. So I have to take him into the vet's tomorrow and leave him there for three days at which time they will do IV fluids on him.
Some people think that spending the money on an animal is stupid, but I would spend my last dime on this cat. Maybe that is foolish, but he is special, and I know he is a gift from God to me...I also know he won't be here forever, but I would like to delay the time of his death as long as possible. Please pray that the things the vet does will do the trick for him. It might mean more work for me in the long run, but I will do it for my best friend. Thanks in advance for your prayers. This has been really emotional for me.
Zagnut
6/3 I went in to see Zagnut this morning. I wish I could say I feel better but I think I feel worse. They tried to put the IV into his front right paw and had a problem with it, and so now his right front paw is all swelled up. The IV is in the left front paw, and he is doing as well as could be expected. They said he did not eat yesterday but did this morning, and I gave him some treats while I was there and he gobbled them up.
The new problem they asked me about this morning is whether he was having any vision problems. I said I hadn't noticed anything unusual. They said that he didn't seem to be able to see his food, but if they showed him where it was he would eat. His eyes are dilated most of the time, and when they shine a light on it, there is not a significant change like there should be. I happened to remember (after I left the office) that there was a time a long while ago, when he was having problems with his vision...he would see something laying on the floor, like a dark sock or a dark shoe, and would act like it was something he was terrified of, he would walk slowly up to it and paw at it and then when it moved he would jump straight up in the air. He hasn't had that happen for a long time, and the two things could be totally unrelated, but I will mention it to the vet tomorrow when I go in.
Now my fear is that he will go blind. I have not noticed him running into anything or having trouble jumping up on things, etc. But who knows? He might be in the beginning stages of losing his sight, or it could just be related to all that he is going through now. The vet wants to keep an eye on him, and see how things go. He could not explain why, so I imagine there will be more tests to go through in the future.
Tomorrow they will do a blood test to see how it reads. He should come home on Thursday. By then we will know if this has worked or not. One of the other vets said that what they are doing is the equivalent of kidney dialysis for humans. So it should clean him all out, but how long will it stay that way remains to be seen. I am really sad and depressed about all of this, so I would appreciate your continued prayers.

I will be praying for your cat - my vet told me always to keep the teeth clean because gum disease can lead to kidney problems -- We have God do such miracles for our pets -- The vet knows now he is not the only one at work! xoxoxoxo I bet that Kelsey NIcole is a morsel! |

| I'll be praying for your cat, I know how special pets can be, I have a 13 yr old Yorkie, and he is very special to me. Can't bear to think his life span is getting short, I've had him since he was 6 weeks old! He has definitely been a faithful companion all these years. |

| Deb, before reading this blog, I never would have considered spending big bucks on vet bills to prolong an animal's life....but this really speaks to me. God bless Zagnut! (wow, did I really write that?) And God bless you sis, may the Lord answer our prayers for your cat. ~mike |

| You all seem to understand what I am going through (well, except for Mike :)) I appreciate all your prayers and thoughts, and telling me about your animals. It helps so much. I dropped Zagnut off at the vets this morning. I am really rather relieved right now that he is there. He has pretty much stopped eating anything except baby food. I am hoping they can get him to feeling better and then maybe he will eat. He will be there until Thursday. They gave me an estimate on cost, and it isn't going to be as much as I thought, at least for now. I get to go in to visit him, just like a real hospital, so I will spend some time there tomorrow. Will be hard to see him hooked up to IV's. But I know it is hopefully making him better. Thanks again for all your prayers. |

Deb,
You know I love to tease you about your cats, but my prayers are with you and no joking! |

Heavenly Father we know that the donkey in the old testament was wiser then Balak the prophet and seen the Angel of the Lord and would not move even after Balak beat him ; and the donkey also spoke to Balak; sometimes animals are so much wiser then humans; to see and demonstrate the things of God and yes it would be a priveledge to pray for your cat that he may also be used by our friend Lord and master as well much like I have taught my little dog so that my children can see God in that animal. So Lord we ask for your devine intervention in this cats life in Jesus name amen. |

Deb: I'm another animal lover. Animals were created before a spouse was (for Adam), so I believe that should give some idea of how God thinks of them. I've lost 2 guinea pigs and seen their discomfort. The first one (Lily) helped me feel God's love again. So I will pray. I know what it's like to be willing to pay any price for their health. Rmartel: I love your prayer and I agree with it. |
