| Have Big Time TV Ministries Become Hereditary? |
|
| |
Why do so many TV preachers have their kids preaching on their shows nowadays? Just flip across the religious channels and you will see the children of ministers being promoted and given huge TV audiences because of their father or mother's fame and power (oops, I mean ministry). It is sort of a religious affirmative action.
Why should those grown kid preachers be handed such an opportunity for self-promotion (oops I mean ministry) because of who their parents are? When a church or TV ministry needs a new preacher to promote, why don't they make a national search and open that position to the most qualified (or dare I say, to the one God wants for the position) instead of putting their own offspring into it?
The Catholic church dealt with this by requiring preachers to accept chastity (or at least the appearance of chastity / not to marry). This took care of their problem of handing kids big ministries. Maybe non-denominational, independent ministry folks should try that solution. |

Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Whether or not your a Christian , Muslim , Or whoever whatever.........Most children do not depart from their belief system of how they were raised. They follow their upbringing to the grave.
This is Spiritually what the Angel's call a "STRONGHOLD"

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
And he gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctine, by the sleight of men and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ. (Ephesians 4:7-15)
See that's the problem right now...too many people went....and were not sent by GOD....this ain't no family thing....this is a GOD thing! |

| It is a family business...I am sure there is ministry taking place, but it can not be denied that it is also a business. |

Yes sir Brother Todd, it *has* become a business...unfortunately it's a money making business...it's high time to get back to GOD'S BUSINESS....KINGDOM BUSINESS.....souls are at stake!
As it is recorded in Gods Word....
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon, But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. (1 Corinthians 3:9-15) |

People should worry about other's souls. Here this is a clear case of worrying about 'self' and the family of 'self'. Once surplus money comes into the ministry, and people are not accountable, we have a tendency to safeguard this money from other's hands. A ministry is formed by a group of people. It is unfortunate that people dont get likeminded people. Then they involve their children and they are made important. Then they do all sorts of things to project them as more important. They try to pass on the mantle to the children as if there are no matured children of God in the original team constittuted by the 'parent' This is a problem in ministry everywhere and by this we can know if a ministry is real one or a false one. |

Ok I'm going to take a little diffrent thought here. Most people who care about their kids take what they have in their lives and spend 18 or 20 years or more pouring themselves into their kids. As parents we desire to see our kids surpass us in what they accomplish. So for this reason alot of ministers kids have alot of Word in them and time spent observing the workings of a ministry. So right off they have a head start above someone starting a ministry with no previous experence. And sometimes the kids partake of the grace that the parents have in their life. I have seen ministers kids that were more powerful and effective than their parents. But I have to say this is often the exception and not the rule. I feel ministers kids often become to familiar with the mininisty and church and often take for granted the things of God and the ministry and do start running it as a business. No matter what the persons background the number one qualifier to me is a true genuine calling/grace and a sincere hunger for God. If they desire God like they desire the next breathe then it doesn't matter who their parents are they will be used by God and He will cause them to succeed. |

I totally agree with you Mike that the kids of preachers have edge over others who start ministry. It doesnt mean while they are children they have better understanding over the other adults who have the same experience. There are also so many kids of ministers who live against their father or mother who are great preachers. |

I was thinking of what you said, Steve, and the Prodigal Son story came to mind. Also, Billy Graham and his son, Franklin, came to mind. I'm sure that you know that, at first, Franklin was not a fore runner to the "family" ministry of Billy Graham. He was wild and sowed his oats in ways that would defy a Christian upbringing. Others were considered when Billy went looking for a Godly replacement to continue the extremely important and far reaching successful ministry. For example, Jim Wilson, who is an evangelist and crusade leader, was once considered for the Billy Graham empire. In fact, Billy Graham all but named him to the post (according to Jim).
But, lo and behold, Franklin had changed. His re-commitment to Christ and the ministry of Christ was sincere. And like the loving father of the Bible story, Billy offered forgiveness to his son. And he was given the very best that he had; not a fatted calf or a ring, but a ministry worth more than material possessions.
So, I guess what I'm saying is that, in this case, it was the right thing to do. Franklin had the advantage of being raised in a Christian family, he was given opportunity to make choices of his own and gain the experiences of a driven and depraved world, and then he experienced forgiveness, gained a purpose for life and pursued faithful service. |

Ed! This is precisely the point. Billy thought of Jim Wilson, So in his understanding Jim Wilson a non family member was fit enough to run the BG ministry. Franklin was not fit to take up his father' s mantle at that point in time, otherwise Billy Graham would have made him his successor. At that time, Franklin becomes a changed person. His experience though changed at a later age, is definitely lesser than that of Jim. May be after Jim, Franklin could have taken up. If Franklin had an advantage by being born in a christian family, he was not ready because he was wild and sowed his oats in ways that would defy a christian upbringing. |

Yes, I do see it as a problem. No names, but I occasionally look at one such show, and am totally bewildered at how older people can be so hypnotized by the empty headed fluff that comes from a 30 something personality. But then again, we have the same thing with cooking shows, talk shows, etc.
Look at the cooking shows. You don't have someone with 40-50 years experience who has been a chef in major world restaurants, but some young and cutsie personality type with loads of mouth and hype, but little real substance. You name it and it is not the real experts that are popular, but the good-lookers with personality. In a youth-worshiping culture that has all the depth of thinned paint, age and real expertise are cast aside, in the church and out of the church. |
