| An Educational Institutions Without Graduates? |
|
| |
The only educational institution that I have ever heard of that doesn't graduate anyone is the church. In a church you find someone who has only been a Christian for three weeks and knows nothing about the Bible sitting on the same pew with someone who has been a Christian for 40 years and has read through the Bible 30 times. And they are both listening to the very same message about "Christianity 101" by a preacher who shows little interest or enthusiasm during his sermon. Does that many any sense?
After somebody has been in church a couple of years and has heard the "Christianity 101" message a few times, why doesn't the church graduate him or her and send them out to prayer walk in their community on Sunday mornings? Why keep them tied to the building and to the apron strings of the preacher?
Let's face it. Our modern church system produces bored Sunday morning Christians who live like secular Americans during the rest of the week. Where are the bold, courageous Christian men and women that you read about in the Book of Acts and in church history?
Our American church system doesn't seem to produce that kind of Christian. And if God begins to raise up a bold, courageous Christian man or woman, the preacher is usually threatened by him or her and calls him a rebel, tells him to "get under authority", and pulls him back into the fold of mediocrity.
Shouldn't our churches, let God's people go? Surely it is time for some American churches to graduate some folks. Let's allow God to raise up bold and courageous Christians before it is too late for America! |

| Steve, AMEN! Jesus told us to go into all the world and make "disciples" of all men teaching them to obey whatsoever He has commanded. The great commission has become the great omission. In my opinion, what we have seen is making converts and baptizing them. Where is the teaching? Where is the training? If there is good teaching where is the application? Where is the accountability of the Christian? We need to add to our faith, we need to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. There is so much to be said here, that I fear taking over your blog. Just want to say, I agree with you, and encourage you to keep speaking up and out, and encouraging the body of Christ to go further in their walk with God. |

| Thank you, Bro. Todd. I really like your question, "Where is the application?" It seems to be almost totally missing. |

In our church we have an educational/discipleship ministry called the "Christian Education Center". It is shaped after the secular institutions in that each course has credits toward a degree. Granted it's only an internal ministry, but it has helped our people get out of the pews and into the community. For example, we had several small classes on the "art" of prayer walking. Now we have a prayer walking ministry that has even been invited to our partnered association in the Boston area. Other courses on witnessing have had participants share their stories of being able to approach people (even their own family members) with the gospel message. Still, some courses have been offered for better understanding family relationships, leadership training, and how to start a small group (we have four small groups now.)
I must admit, however, that not everyone takes advantage of the newly developed ministries. Some folks are prone to sit in the pews forever. |

| Thanks for the 10 stars, Mar Jay! But the indicator at the top says I only have 4 stars. Maybe some other folks will star this to make up for your lost stars! lol |

| That is very encouaging, Ed!!! I am so glad to hear about a church that is training people to prayer walk and then allowing them to actually follow through and do it on a regular basis. |

It is interesting to me that in my experiences in the church many saints do not seems to have a love for learning and doing things that is out of the box or atmosphere of the church. I often wondered if it was because of fear.
We must admit the church atmosphere is quite comfortable for most folks. Calling them out to do something ....well that is like work and many just don't have the time for extra work. Sad, isn't it?
But I do agree with you. The Church must train her disciples for Christ sake and send them out. The havest is ready but there are too few workers for the havest.
