Give me Jesus
3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, [being] the ninth [hour]. 3:2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3:3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 3:5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Then Peter said, silver and gold have I none… The Ethiopic version reads, "we have none"; and so it reads the next clause in the first person plural; that is, they had no money either of gold or silver coin; they had none about them, nor any of their own perhaps any where; none but what was brought to them, and put into their hands as a common stock for the whole church, or the poor of it: nor indeed might any money be carried in a purse into the temple; though doubtless they might carry it in their hands, or otherwise, for the offerings, or for the poor, or this man would not have lain here for alms. But such as I have, give I thee; meaning the gift of healing; not that he communicated that to him, but exercised the gift upon him, by curing him of his lameness; and which was much preferable to large quantities of gold and silver, had he had them to give unto him: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth: signifying, that it was by the command of Christ he said what follows; and byHis power He wrought the cure which commenced upon it; even by the authority and virtue of Him, who was treated with so much contempt by the Jews, and had lately been crucified by them: in His name he bid Him rise up and walk; without making use of any medicines, or applying anything to Him; but believing that power would go along with the words, and strength would be communicated to Him, by Him in whose name he spoke, he said these words: and herein lies the difference between the miracles wrought by Christ, and by His disciples; those that were done by Him were done in His own name, and by His own power; those that were performed by His disciples, were done in the name of Christ, and by His power alone; and the Jews themselves own, that the disciples performed cures "in the name of Jesus"
I would rather have Jesus then have:
money car house retirement plan portfolio good health large bank account cloths shoes
Look at me, I have no money, nor silver or gold, but what I do have I will give you.
I can give you Jesus !

I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold, I'd rather have Him than have riches untold, I'd rather have Jesus than houses or land, I'd rather be lead by His nailed scared hand. Then to be a king in a vast domain, Then be held in sins dread sway. I'd rather have Jesus than anything. This world affords today. |

I used to have a form of religion, sabbaths, Old Testament laws like tithing, I thought I understood prophecy and others didn't, I thought the "one true church" was mine, I considered that Catholics and Protestants were the Great Whore and her daughters, but I didn't have one thing. I didn't have Jesus.
Jesus found me and revealed himself. It was the best thing to happen in my entire life. I got rid of sabbaths and other OT laws which Jesus did not command. I began to appreciate the faith and love of Jesus among Protestants and even Catholics. I was not alone in loving and worshiping Jesus either. Wow! People with all kinds of different understandings on non-essential issues love Jesus. Normal people, not so normal people and even many totally wacky people love Jesus and he died for us all.
It's a challenging journey, and we have not yet "arrived" at the end of it. |

My interpretation of this passage is that Peter is saying "What you want, we do not have but what you need - which is far more that you have asked for - we give to you!"
What a testimony to God's love and how we are even today called to be His hands and feet!
Wow! |
