How To Storm-proof Your Home
You probably know Oklahoma is located in a region called "tornado alley". Many times this year I have sent messages on here saying...gotta go..headed to the storm shelter. As a long-time resident of Oklahoma, I have grown to respect storms. Having many times huddled in the hallway, which is the center point of our home, as a storm passed overhead.
Having helped friends dig out their few belongings from the wreckage of their home after a tornado...I have come to appreciate life and value the little things that happen.
23:22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old.
23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; `Yea', wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
23:24The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.
23:25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, And let her that bare thee rejoice.
Building our homes on a firm foundation WITH a 'safe spot' is the only way to build a home. We all live in tornado alley. Satan is at every point waiting to entrap us and stir up wrath. We honor our parents by listening to them. We try to teach the same to our children as we are learning while we raise them. Danger threatens when a child refuses parental advise. However, once the child is old enough to realize he/she doesn't know everything after all, they begin to understand how wise his parents really were-and are.
A young girl ran out behind her grandfather's van to play a trick on him. While he was entering the van, thankfully, the grandmother saw her. What a tragedy if the young girl did not listen and heed the call of her grandmother. This is just like us too...only some of us run out into the street..almost waiting to see if a car will hit us. Why do we play with sin...we will always get hurt.
23:26 My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways.
23:27 For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.
23:28Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.
One of the best ways to direct our children along right paths is to travel those paths ourselves. Here a father encourages his son to watch him: to observe his ways and follow his example of avoiding immorality.
What steps have you taken to prevent dangers from entering your home?
*are you teaching about dangers in relation to the Bible or what was handed down the family line...including derogatory remarks.
*are you protecting your home against pornography, sexual movies, nudity, explicit in nature tv, foul language, alcohol..drunkenness, images that are not Godly.
*are you listening to God yourself?
*are you carelessly teaching manners and habits that will hurt your next generation....
24:1 Be not thou envious against evil men; Neither desire to be with them:
24:2For their heart studieth oppression, And their lips talk of mischief.
24:3Through wisdom is a house builded; And by understanding it is established;
24:4 And by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and pleasant riches.
"Keeping up with the Joneses" is a myth that will destroy your life. Envious attitudes, motives, and actions will quickly drive your home into the ground. Unhealthy dynamic of this disaster is only measured by the ramifications God knows...we may never know the trap we gave to the next generation.
A Biblical understanding...having God's perspective on life....and implementing that perspective in a healthy, loving, gentle home...establishes the firm foundation and the perfect 'safe spot' that meets the most basic human needs.
