| Don't Look at Me! |

I was reading my "scripture of the day" that MyChurch is kind enough to place on my page with an invitation to blog it. I wondered if everyone had the same scripture and so I wondered if I wanted to blog something a gazillion other people would be blogging. But this passage reminded me of something I need to repeat to myself regularly, so I decided to go ahead.
The passage given (Acts 4:10-12) is part of the larger story of Peter and James healing a lame man when they were on their way to the Temple in Jerusalem. After the healing, the crowd gathers around them in awe. But Peter says,
"Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk?” Acts 3:12 (NAS)
This seems to me to be the perfect answer for compliments and praise. I know that people need affirmation. I do. But it's something that is hard for me to deal with because I want to give the glory and praise where it is due. So here's the answer to any word of praise ---- "Why do you look at me as though by my own ability I accomplished that good thing?" Every good thing in me is a direct result of what Jesus has done.
4:10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man is standing before you well. 4:11 This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the head of the corner. 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." |
