| What If She Would Have Just Said NO? |
|
| |
Eve gets blamed for a lot. All because she listened to the serpent and he convinced her she would be better off eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge. What would our world be like if she had just said NO?
I have been thinking about that a lot with the sudden illness of my cat that will bring certain death. Life on earth wasn't meant to be this way. God didn't want us to sin and didn't want us to fall and have death enter the picture. Life on this earth would have been so different if Eve had said no. There would be no death, no illness, no hate, no crime, no violence, no war. What would we do with ourselves? There would be no wages, so no one would work harder to get ahead. We might have construction going on, and there would be babies being born just like there is now, only we would never run out of food or supplies. Perhaps there would even be cars...or would we just think of someplace we want to be and suddenly be there? No paying $4.00 for a gallon of gas. Natural resources would be never ending. There would be no hot or cold, just nice comfortableness, except for those that love to ski, they might be able to think themselves into a nice cold place and ski to their hearts content.
The main occupations would probably be farming and fishing and construction. There would be no need for lawyers or doctors, or teachers (since we would already know it all). There would be no undertakers, since there would be no death. We'd probably all speak the same language, and we wouldn't need currency to buy things, just trade, or just take freely since we are all free.
There would be no weeds in the garden, and the plants would never die, just keep right on bearing fruit. All animals would love each other and there would be no survival of the fittest. Water would be a constant, and no one would go thirsty.
But that is not how it happened, and death did enter the picture. We must live each day as it comes, grabbing it for all it will give us, holding close to those that we love since we never know when they will be taken from us.
My cat is a member of my family, and he is going to die. I hate it, and I wish that Eve would never have eaten what the serpent offered, therefore bringing death into the picture. But I am holding on to right now, because that is all I have. I wish I could talk God into a miracle, but it would only prolong the inevitable. Death is a part of life. At least in this world. But in the next, oh, in the next, it will be life everlasting. I can't wait! |

| It's pretty interesting imagining what life would be like if Eve had said "no". And yes, paying $4/gal for gas is just plain wrong. Perhaps the hardest thing to imagine is, if sin had never entered the world, what would our thought processes be like??? No sin, no struggle, no pain, no Enemy, no temptation, no "adventure" (risk), etc... Hard to even consider. Interesting thoughts Deb. Hold on, the best is yet to come! |

| Mike, that is what is getting me through this life, is what is to come in the next. God is greater than anything this world can throw at me. |

| First of all...great blog...but then, my question also lies here: What would it have been like if, Adam, being the man and the head of Eve had of stood ground against the serpent and took the God-given authority that he had and used it, would things she have been able to be so easily pursuaded by the devil and how would life for us be today???? lol...I often wonder myself why Eve gets the blame so much for this thing, when the man is the head of the woman. Instead of Adam standing back in the woodwork letting the enemy push all up on Eve, he should have stood up and took position and commanded his behind to get to steppin' and things could have been different. But, in still, it was all the plan of the Father anyway...thats just 'Tania's' perspective on it all..LOL!!! But yes, I too can't wait for the 'whats next to come' after this is all over. Hey...God can heal your cat...done had it happen to us before. Our dog had the animal for of polio and we laid hand on our baby and God healed him when the vet kept telling us that it was only a matter of time for him to go. He lived a good long life with us!!! Again...good blog!!!! |

I hear your point on this blog, but I often think and talk to people about the 'human' nature of humanity, and I think if it hadn't been "adam and eve" it would have been "donald and rita" or something like that (I chose those names because I don't know a couple named that!) God gave us free will and we (humanity) messed it up by choosing this sinful life. We pass it on throughout generations, from that first act of defiance and belief that we know better. You don't have to wonder what it would have been like -one day we will see what an existence based on choosing God and rejecting sin is like - in HEAVEN. I am praying for your hurt and for your family at this time, and knowing that God has already planned everything out to HELP and not hurt you! |

| She would have had to say "no" over and over and over... it is not wrong to be tempted it is wrong to give in to temptation. |

| I HATE apples anyhow LOL, they might taste better in heaven though? |

I am with Growing~ I think it was going to happen regardless if it was Eve. If God knows all, he must have known Eve was going to mess up. He only believed and prayed for her that she would not. BUT, sticking with your story...it is hard to imagine living as they did in this day and age. TOO BIG to imagine! |

Deb, I feel you all the way over here in Staten Island, NY. I'm feeling you. It's natural to wonder what if, but that's not really the point is it? The main thing is to know that God knows best. That is the hardest thing for some of us to accept. Not my will, but thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Death is a natural process of this side of life and we can never be ready for it. But having said that, for you and me and other Christians, there is no death.. we just past on to life eternal. If it is God's will to take your precious love one home, it only means that it's time and we must emotionally allow God's will to be done. Time is a part of creation, but there is no time where God is. Know that you will be together always one day. No pain, no suffering, just joy and freedom from anixety to give God all the praise. I hold you in my prayers. Pastor Aminata |

I often return to the Adam and Eve story and still find food for thought. I agree w/Tania about Adam - he was the one God held accountable. And after she gave into temptation - would things be different if Adam had chosen to align himself with God rather than Eve: if he had not eaten the apple? And I like what Tom said. Satan wasn't going to leave earth, he planned to stick around. Good blog, Deb. God bless you and your beloved cat. |

Tania, girl you have said a lot! The man was the head of things, and should have stood up to Eve, and put her in her place. lol This was a hypothetical question, since we know that God had it all planned out to begin with. But I imagine that the way he really wanted the earth and its inhabitants to be, is what it will be like in heaven, and that brings me a great peace.
Growing, you are right of course, since God gave us free will, we were bound to mess up, if not Adam and Eve, there were plenty of opportunites listed in the bible where people chose the wrong way to go.
Tom, it is wrong to give in to temptation, but the devil keeps trying to wear us down. Like you said, Eve would have had to say no over and over.
Stu, I bet everything tastes good in heaven! And no calories! (i'm on a diet, so I am thinking calories right now, lol)
Barvubuela, it is hard to imagine, but then so is heaven hard to imagine too. But it will be similar to how the earth would have been had Eve said no.
Pastor Aminata, it is extremely difficult to agree with God's will sometimes, but we have to because that is how it will happen. He does know best even if we don't agree with Him at the time.
Jay, thank you, and thank you for your thoughts too.
Steve, A thought provoking question. If we could completely surrender to God and eliminate sin from our lives, how much easier would life be? |
|

If Eve would have said no I wouldn't have the headache I have now lol. Fortunately one day we will see what it is like to live in a place that is not tainted by sin. No more headaches :-) No more grief, and no more pain,

I hear your point Deb and I'm sorry about your cat. The other day our cat didn't come home at night like it usually does and I was thinking about the sorrow in the family that would come if something had happened to it. The whole death and grief thing just stinks!
By the way, just a little challenge. What makes you think we would "already know it all"? Can you find some verse that tells us that Adam and Eve had total knowledge? |
|
|
Good thoughts here..I spend a lot of my "thinking time" in the WHAT IF mode. I believe God knew man would fall. The Lamb was slain BEFORE the foundation of the world. God didn't say eat the life tree fruit. He wanted to show us even in our innocent state, our "free will" would chose wrong!
That's why we need God! He has brought the tree of life into us now. What are we eating today? The 2 trees are still here. |

At the risk of being branded as a super liberal in my theology (I'm not!), let me be a bit of a devil's advocate. Suppose the garden story (the "Fall", actually) was just that: a story. Not to be taken literally, but to be taken as a way for early Hebrews to understand the serious dichotomy of good and evil. If this were so, it wouldn't be a matter of speculating alternate events, it would be a matter of accepting the events as illustrated.
Therefore, if by merely accepting the story as God's way to teach me about God's love and care, and taking responsibility and accepting consequences for our free will choices, then He has done well. |

Pastor Tim, are you implying that women cause headaches? :)
Steve, always the pastor, and always making me think :)...I don't think there is anything in the old testament that implies we will "know it all", so in that sense, what I said was inaccurate. Eve did eat of the tree of knowledge, after all. But I think had she not, God would have revealed all to her and Adam. However, when I made that statement, I was thinking more of 1 Corinthians 13:1, Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part, then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. When we are in heaven, I think we will have full understanding. And I guess I feel that if Eve had just said no, then the heaven that we will experience when we die, would have been what earth should have been now. Does that make sense?
Charlie, I have been led to believe that God knows all before it happened. The bible tells us that He knew us even before we were formed. So yes, I do believe He knew that the fall would happen. But what if, just by her choosing a different alternative, or Adam putting her in her place, the course of history might have been changed? This is only a "what if" blog.
Ed, and interesting way to look at it. But I like the creativity of your thoughts. |

Ah..now we are talking parrallel universes! I love "what ifing."
Ed, I know several saints that belieive A&E was just a story. IF it was, it would not change my faith or walk with the Lord. I agree, the truth is there just as much as it is in Jesus' parables. However, I believe it happened. I don't think we have the full story tho. I believe God will be opening the seals for us through out eternity. |

Charlie, "what ifing" can be fun, and really cause us to stretch our minds out. A little mental calisthenics never hurt anyone!
Ed, I agree, we have our hands full just staying obedient and faithful. We will get the whole story in forever. God will have all the time in the world to tell it to us. |
