My women's small group read Captivating late last year together. I personally found it to be a wonderfully written journey regarding the women's soul. Who is she? How was she created?.. what happened to that carefree dreamer?

Every parent I meet claims they don't know what they are doing. My parents were no different,.. and for that I forgive them. :) Growing up in a family of only girls, my dad always insisted that I needed to be "just like a boy". I needed to be just as smart, just as fast,.. and never should I let anyone tell me I couldn't do something because I was a girl. So I did just that. I played all kinds of sports, played with tonka trucks, aced all my classes, graduated valedictorian, went to college and majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (some would say the ultimate 'boy' major), and learned how to wire the home entertainment system. I knew a lot of this wasn't really me.. but really a pursuit of how I wanted my dad to approve of me.

The Eldredge's (husband and wife authors) write about the source of our questions, as a young girl, a teen, and even as a woman. They delve into why men don't have the same questions. How even our connection to Adam and Eve continue to shape how we question ourselves..

But what I enjoyed most about Captivating, is how it turns your typical idea of Godly femininity upside down. It's not a 10-step program to becoming the perfect proverbs 31 woman. Instead, the focus is on what the heart longs for.. to be captivated by God and his love for us.. and to fully commune in a real relationship with our Creator. It's a great read and very applicable for women in all stages of life. I highly recommend it! :)
