“Consider it pure joy my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” (James 1:2-3)
There sure are a lot of things that can test our patience. First and foremost our children, young adolescent or adults. Next it would be our spouses. Lately, I think we could add the ever rising costs of gasoline, and then for us sports guru’s here in Atlanta, our own Atlanta Braves. Patience is simply something that doesn’t just land in our laps, or available for us to simply reach out and grab it. It is a long process of trying and trying and praying and praying. It sure doesn’t come easy. A lot of times we have to endure set backs, trials, and frustrations to obtain a little patience. But we can’t give up. We don’t give up on our children, we don’t give up on our spouses, I won’t throw in the towel on the Braves, and guess what, most importantly, God doesn’t give up on us.
“Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. . . Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him” (James 1:4 and 12) So tackle your set backs, persevere through the trials and keep your eyes focused on the Father who loves you and will stand with you through anything. Anything is possible with God’s help, even having a little patience.
Prayer: Father God, help me through the setbacks of life. Though I don’t understand why, give me strength to keep going, to hold my head up and to keep trusting and praying for guidance, direction and your plan. Help me to know that you are always with me. Help me to simply be patient and wait upon you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
