| The Fear It Spilled Life |
|
| |
No, it’s not a misprint. Our Sunday school teacher had a slip of the tongue, and meant to say “Spirit filled life” but instead he said “Fear it spilled life”. I thought it was humorous at the time, but then got to thinking it might make more sense than a spirit filled life. After all, do most people really understand what being spirit filled is all about? Don’t we tend to live lives that are full of fear? We fear, and then that fear spills over into other areas of our lives. Hence, a "fear-it spilled life". When we fear, we are not putting our trust in God. We are trying to do it all ourselves. We think we can handle whatever life throws at us on our own. We don’t want to depend on God because He might not help us. We think when God doesn’t act as soon as we utter our prayers, that He must not be listening. He doesn’t really care about us or our problems or fears.
I know in my own life, when I fear, I fret and worry and it affects my whole life. I pray but I don’t allow the Spirit to take control. When no answers come, my worry intensifies. It is a never ending cycle.
Recently, with the sudden illness of my cat, I prayed and prayed. Prayers of desperation for his healing, for God to give me more time with him. Only to have the vet say that there is nothing more they can do. He only has a short time to live. Those were not the answers I prayed for. My fear and sadness overtook me. I left God out of the equation. I figured He’d let me down. I lost sight of God and what He is all about. It took me a while, lots of tears and anger and praying, before I realized there is nothing I can do about it. If I live in fear of all that might happen, I am not living. The Spirit is not filling me…fear is. I had to lift my fear and disappointment up to God. I had to let the Spirit fill me up and squeeze out the fear. I had to say Thank You Lord for the time you have given me with him, and for each day you will give me. When the time comes, help me through the loss, because I know I can‘t do it alone.
We are not promised tomorrow. All we have is now. If the Spirit fills us, then that is enough. This world is but a blink in time. The pain and sorrow that this life brings is temporary. I want the Spirit to fill me rather than fear. I want the spirit to spill out of me into other lives. I want to live a Spirit filled life, rather than a fear it spilled life. |

| Yes when a person fears they are not being perfected in love. Fear is what keeps things the way they are. Change happens when we set aside our fears and step into the realm of faith. Shalom |

This is simply beautiful. Thank you Holy Spirit and thank you Deb for allowing the Holy Spirit to use you. Gal 5:22-23 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. Pastor Aminata |

Hi Deb, Question, when a person tells others about new Colorado laws that give special rights to homosexuals, they turn to you and say, "why are you spreading fear?" Is spreading fear ever a good thing? |
|
|
| Deb, now that is a great yearning! (and a great play on words!) Love this blog, will certainly pray to be Spirit-filled and not fear it-spilled! |

"If I live in fear of all that might happen, I am not living. The Spirit is not filling me…fear is." So true. I know it's hard to loose an animal friend. It's not the size of the animal, but the size of the place they take in your heart. God's with you and your kitties. |

| How inspiring! Isn't it great how God can use a slip of the tongue to bring a truth to us! |

DeeDee, thank you.
Livewire, thank you as well!
Jade, thank you and you are welcome.
R, I don't think spreading fear is necessarily a good thing. A little fear can be a good thing, but to let it rule our lives, not so good. There is very little we can do about the special rights to homosexuals...we can fight it on a legislative level, we can fight it on a Christianity level, but we are charged to love everyone, according to the bible, and Jesus' words. Doesn't mean we have to like or even understand what they do. The bible warns us that things are going to get worse as we get closer to the end of this world. People choose to blatantly ignore God's warnings, then who am I to stop them? You can tell people of God, but if they choose to ignore your words, then you are to leave them to their own. It is up to God to change their minds and hearts. I don't like the things that are happening, as far as homosexuals are concerned, because it makes a mockery of our bible and our beliefs. But as far as fear is concerned, I am not going to let it ruin my life or my faith.
Mike, thank you...I thought it was a unique play on words. I must give thanks to my Sunday School teacher, Kevin, for the slip of the tongue.
Jen, thanks for your kind words.
Shirley, Glad you enjoyed it! |
