I will always remember when my ma used to make lemonade. The "Good Humer" man ringing his bells when he came around with those great ice cream treats. We used to take walks around the area and my folks would stop and talk for long periods to neighbors. We never locked our home and many did not even bother to take the keys out of their cars. people would bring food over to the house. They and my folks would do that. Just because of friendship.
The fifties was a special time I'll never forget.
My ma made some great apple pies also. Strawberry and rhubarb too!!

Thanks Golden2100 for sharing your memories of the lazy days of Summer and you are so right the the fifties was a great time to be around. Where true friendships developed for life you shared what you had and never excepting it to be returned but some how it did by 10 fold. Where people always shared their meals and not except you to sit in their living room while they finshed their  meal. Some how there was always enough to go around even if you thought you hadn't cooked enough those were the good old days.

Ya know, it seams kind of sad that bwe are the only ones who remember the good times. i think there are more. But they are scared to talk about it. (I'm jesting)
But, there is so much I remember from the 'old days', it is unbelievable to think no one else does!!

How about swinging on grapevines and sucking the juice out of honeysuckle?; nothing like the smell of honeysuckle on a warm summer evening; catching lightning bugs and picking fresh strawberries was always a delight as well; churning homemade ice cream couldn't be beat; happy summer, everyone!!!!              They may come around slowly. I love to hear what others remember in their youth.
I was talking to my oldest daughter the other day on the phone. It is so nice to hear her talk about the good times she and the others had when they were young. It gave me a slight tear in my eye.

I have four children. One son and three daughters. I feel like Abraham every time I see the bunch. It's a blessing. When my kid's were young. That was another part of the good old days!!

I remember getting up every morning, throwing on clothes and heading outside.  My brothers and I would get on our bikes and ride off to find the neighbor kids.  We all played together all day.  We made forts, "got married" and raced on our homemade "dirtbike track."  Possibilities were endless.  We used our imaginations.
On Sundays, I remember going to church then racing home to pick up our bathing suits.  We would then drive to my grandparents' camp on the water.  There was no eating out on the way.  We would eat sandwiches or whatever other good food only a grandma knows how to fix.  Then, after waiting an hour for our food to digest, we could finally swim and swim and swim.
What great memories!!!!

Thanks Rebecca for sharing your lazy days of Summer.

Yes just going to Grandparents house was always a treat for me as well but no swiming in a pond or lake. But my grandpa loved putting us all in the horse tank no mater summer or winter it was his hello to us all. Of course he always make sure it was cleaned out and fresh water and no horse slobbers lol.

My three sons and one daughter and 6 grand-children are always my high lightsof my life and I love making good memories with each of them. My oldest grandson told me once grandmas and grandpas make even the worst sandwiches taste great because it is made with love. It is a shame he never got to meet his grandpa, but he says I make up for it by being a Tomboy grandma, going camping, fishing and not afraid of what ever he has in is pockets not even a small little snake. Making memories with your family doesn't have to be costly just spending time with them makes it the good old days.

Two words ... King's Island.  My favorite job there was dipping ice cream at the UDF on Main Street by the fountain.  We used to get slammed around dusk, when people started gathering to watch the fireworks behind the Eiffel Tower.  I was the go-to guy for malts and shakes (and, not to boast, but I've still never found someone who made a malt like I could).   Thanks for bringing up those memories with your blog, Susan!

Thank you Pastor Allen, that is what this blog is all about bringing up good memories. Kings Island is a real fun place to go and the fire works can bring a smile to even the grumpiest person. My favorite things there is the flume log and the roller coaster. I also love to go to Dolly Pardons and take the coal miners journey and up the lazy river where I was sprayed by a hippo. At Disney World it was climbing the tree of Robertson Crusoe, at dusk listening to the steel drums playing Latin music.

I love Malts but I am like you it is hard to find a real good one.

I hope more people will contribe to this blog and share their good memories we all need a smile.
