17:1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into an high mountain apart, 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. The events that happened in the life of Jesus have a direct application in our lives as believers. Jesus transfiguration is no exception. The word that is translated transfigured is the Greek word "Metamorphosis". It is used two other places in the New Testament. 2Co 3:17-18 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed (transfigured) into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. As we seek to behold the Glory of God in our lives, we are transfigured. We must daily behold Jesus through His Word. We must seek His face in prayer, praise, and worship. The Holy Spirit will transfigure us into the image of Jesus from glory to glory. The same Greek word is also used in Romans 12:2. It says, "Be transformed (transfigured) by the renewing of your mind." Our minds must be renewed by to the Word of God by the Spirit of God. This is not a single isolated event but an ongoing process that will continue for as long as we walk with God. It is clear that we each need our own personal Mount of Transfiguration experience, and not just once but again and again, but why Jesus? Did He need to be transfigured? Of course not. So what happened to Jesus on the mountain? His face shined and His clothes became dazzling white. He didn't change; His clothes did. His garments were changed. My point is this. We are His garment because He dwells in us. His hands are in our hands, His feet are in our feet. He lives in us, He walks, in us He speaks through us, His face shines through us. As we spend time in His Word and in His presence the metamorphosis is complete. Holy Spirit lead us up the Mount of Transfiguration. Transfigure us, transform us change us into the image of Jesus from glory to glory. |
