32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. "I will guide thee with mine eye." It is possible to train your spirit to be so sensitive that we respond to the slightest glance of our Master. This is in complete contrast to the verse that follows. "Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee." (Psalm 32:9) The idea being conveyed in this verse is that of stubbornness and dullness of spirit. The animals can be trained, but first there is the long and difficult process of breaking the will. "I will instruct thee." The Hebrew word here carries the idea: to act circumspectly, act prudently, act wisely, to prosper, have success. Our Master's instruction leads to our ultimate good, prosperity and blessing; unlike an earthly master who only uses his servant as an object to bring about his own happiness. "I will... teach thee in the way which thou shalt go." Here the Hebrew word translated "teach" literally means: throw, shoot, cast, pour, to point out, show, to direct, teach, instruct, rain. All of these words describe a deliberate and forceful thrusting forth. Jesus in the Great Commission uses the simple and direct command, "Go ye!" With this short command the Church of Christ was thrust forth into the world to be salt and light. How many Christians have never responded to this simple command? His desire is that we be so sensitive that we are keenly in tune and directed by His mere glance. When you see the needy, the lonely, the hurting does your eye effect your heart? "I will guide thee with mine eye." Sensitivity can only come as the result of intimacy. It is impossible to follow His eye without first seeking his face and becoming familiar with His heart. |
