| Oh, that we could learn from our children |
|
| |
"Thank You that we're going to go swimming", a 5 year old confidently prayed. It was a praise full of faith. The reason: at that point the family had no plans whatsoever of going swimming. He was hopeful, though, and he was trusting God to fulfill his desires.
Its easy for us to smile at the innocence of such prayers, but I have a feeling God smiles for a far different reason. The faith of a young child pleases Him. Thats why He said if we want to accept Christ, we must become as a little child:
10:15 Truly I say to you, Whoever does not put himself under the kingdom of God like a little child, will not come into it at all. A young childs faith is so sincere. He hasn't become so full of pride that he believes he can do everything on his own. He places his hope in God and realizes that its God who meets his needs.
We can learn a lot about life and faith from the precious babes with whom we've been blessed.
I would have probably prayed, "Lord, I'd really like to go swimming today. If its Your will, please give us that opportunity." There's nothing wrong with that prayer, but it speaks only of possibility. It doesn't show a hope based on a complete trust that God is going to answer my prayer.
We also might be tempted to argue that God really isn't interested in simple things such as whether we go swimming. Why teach or encourage our children to pray about such things?
10:30 But the hairs of your head are all numbered. If God takes note of exactly how many hairs are on our heads, we have every reason to believe He cares about every area of of our lives, from the biggest to the smallest.
Sometimes we're just too proud or embarrassed to accept that truth. We trust Him with our eternal souls and with our big problems or decisions, but we fear He will laugh at us or scold us if we waste time on minor details. That's not how God works though. We start out with a small seed of faith. We begin talking to God about each area of life. The more time we spend with Him, the more our faith grows. We just need to decide to hope in God. |

"The more time we spend with Him, the more our faith grows." Yes, this is true, it has to be! Great blog! Of course, I would feel stupid thanking God for letting me go swimming, then not being able to go. But so what's a little humiliation between friends! lol I've also seen pride in children, the "I can do it" thing they all eventually do. My son wants to pour his own salad dressing, but he always uses WAY too much. So we've reverted him back to mommy and daddy doing the pouring for him. He doesn't like that b/c a)he doesn't get as much and b)having us do it for him makes him feel less capable and appear younger. Reminding him that it is our job (and no, he may not) isn't pretty! |

I found myself needing to start over again in my prayer life.
By giving praise and thanksgiving at the beginning of my prayers, I can feel the peace and power of God so much as I continue to pray! Praise God! |

| I find it hard to pray for myself, although hubby says I'm a prayer warrior for others. I tend to think that the things in my life are small, and I don't really need to bother God with them. I'm working on that.....but it's not easy. |

| Ma, the bad thing is that I know that......I just struggle feeling wrong in praying for myself. It is sooo easy for me to pray for others....and it's easy for me to pray asking forgiveness for my sins, but I feel selfish in praying for goodness for myself.......does that make sense? |

| This is very good, but when you said that about the faith of a child I think we need to ask in prayer with that same faith. But of course God dose not always answer the way we would like at every prayer we send but He answers the way He knows best. We need to always remember God after all know what is best for each of us.But keep praying and watch Him work His work, and can He ever do the work .Keep typing and God Bless you. |
