see... I'm getting caught up!
Speaker: Major Andy Kelly Scripture: Psalm 62
"GOD ALONE"
David's story ~~ a man after God's own heart. He had a lifetime of struggles - yet always acknowledged God as Most High. David had incredible faith!
God is our Rock. He has infinite capacity - He has always known what will happen to us.
He is our strong tower - during battle, soldiers go to a strong tower for safety and security. We go to God for our security.
If David had this great faith in the face of death, we should be able to have that same faith in our own lives.
v.5 waits silently for God alone - we don't need answers from anywhere else! ** my commentary: I am saddened by fellow believers that continually seek wisdom and answers in other places than God's word. It is discouraging to think that we have all that we need in God's Living Word, and yet for some people that's not "good enough." How do we share this with others? What do we do when our fellow church members are recommending secular self-help books or worldly knowledge gained from watching Oprah to those in need? This is a source of frustration for me.
I will not be defeated. I will not be shaken. I will not be greatly moved.
We don't know the future but we do know WHO holds the future. He's not surprised by what happens.
Good times or bad - we must be in prayer- we know we have our strong tower - our ROCK.
v.6 He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense - I shall not be shaken. We don't need to worry. Our faith must be strong in the Lord. Stand firm on the rock of our salvation.
v.7 salvation and glory
v.8 trust in Him at all times - do not doubt. pour out your heart before Him - he is our refuge.
v.9 man is vapor - cannot have faith in man - ONLY HIM.
v.10 do not trust in opression, do not hope in robbery or deceit, do not trust in riches, do not set your heart on earthly things. MONEY DOESN'T SATISFY US. POSSESSIONS DON'T SATISFY US.
v.11 God has said this - over and over. I will not be shaken! God is strong. Power belongs to God and also to us through the Holy Spirit.
The devil is working hard against us. He is afraid of what God is doing in and through us. He's trying to discourage our progress.
The Lord is loving. He rewards those for what they have done. We are not saved by our works - but we are rewarded for blessing others.
Don't let the devil tell you that you're not effective. Don't let the devil tell you that you're no good.
God tells us over and over in His Word that He loves us. He gives us strength, words - everything we need to bless and encourage others. |
