| Get Out...The House is on Fire! |
|
| |
It was a Monday night, 1980 and the children and I were asleep in our beds. Delbert was on the couch watching football, when I was jolted out of my deep sleep. The smoke detector was going off and Delbert is shouting, "get the children out, the house is on fire!"...
That's the most fearful sound, that one could ever hear! I ran to the children's bedrooms and grabbed them one by one. As the children and I were rushing through the hallway, I was wondering where Delbert was. At that moment he, hollered for us, "to go and stand on the back porch!"...
There was thick smoke, when we came to the end of the kitchen. As we turned to go out the door, the living room door way, was to the right of me. It was a bright red glow...Delbert ran to the kitchen sink, to get a big pot of water, to throw on the fire...
When he threw water on the big living room chair, the water acted like gasoline and it got out of control. Delbert then picked up the burning chair and carried it through the front door. While doing this, it caught the drapes next to the doorway on fire. Also the stuffing fell from the chair and caught the rug on fire...
As we stood on the back porch shivering, I don't know if it was because we were so scared or we didn't have coats and shoes on.. or both, it was November. What seemed like forever, Delbert finally came and told us the fire was out. He also told me, he needed to go to the hospital because he had burned his hands...
With three scared children and me also, I couldn't drive. So I called Delbert's brother and he came and took him. He brought his girlfriend, so she could stay with us, till they got back from the hospital. It seemed like forever, for them to return. Finally I heard a car pull up in the driveway. Delbert's brother was alone. He told us that they were keeping Delbert, because he had 2nd and 3rd degree burns, on his hands and feet...
Delbert came from the hospital thirteen days later, to continue his healing. Before he was discharged, I was shown how, to change the dressings on his fingers and hands. I said, "I didn't think I could do it"..his fingers looked like big burnt hot dogs. I told the nurse," maybe I could do it with my eyes closed." His fingers were the most awful looking things! Delbert humored me and said I could do it...
Well you're probably wondering by now, how did the chair catch on fire. Delbert fell asleep and he had a lighter in his pocket, which must of fallen out. At this time, not knowing, our 3 year old daughter got up. She found the lighter and lite a piece of paper. She got scared and threw the paper on the seat of the chair and went back to bed...
At this point, something woke Delbert up. He thought he was dreaming, when he saw the chair on fire. With his quick thinking, he saved our home. What love, to sacrifice his own life, for the safety of his family. I thank God for watching over all us ... But most of all, I thank God, for my husband Delbert!
I know of of another man, who's life was a sacrifice, for me and for you! His name is Jesus...
3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. |

| God is GOOD! :) This reminds me of an old, old Amy Grant song, "Angels Watching Over Me" -- how many times has the enemy tried to steal, kill and destroy yet he was stopped by Abba! :) |

Wow, Marcella! A fascinating story.

and for the other comment:
Does not the Bible say that when He comes the whole world will know who He is? God is merciful, and will not deceive one who searches earnestly for the true Saviour...Jesus Christ. He will not give His children stones instead of bread. May The Lord Bless You.
Marcella, please keep sharing your wonderful stories!
