This is all about free enterprise.  If we would change our habits the speculators would be dumping that stock fast!  Supply and demand baby.  Low supply and high demand.  We'll see if this Saudi increase will help boost supplies.  I have been noticing the many SUVs are for sale by owner so maybe things will level out soon.

Todd, totally agree. I have said it here many times that the sooner we are off oil, at least that supplied by terrorists, the better.

I agree with you, Voice, I just don't see how gov't intervention will fis anything.  I am very concerned that the measures suggested will only foul things up even more.
I'd love to see some balance coming from our Congress where energy is concerned.  Yes, we need to pursue alternate energy forms.  While doing so we should be drilling and refining our own oil reserves in as eco-friendly and cost-effective manner as possible.  I know those things sound mutually exclusive, but I am a dreamer and I think it can be done!  ;-)

There have been several reports in the past about oil.The Wall Street Journal exposed that oil companies are reaping windfall profits at the expense of the consumer. This is an obvious violation of antitrust laws and violation of business ethics.

The Associated Press reports (in the past) that there are transfers of wealth of historic proportions toward the oil producers. Simply put, the oil companies have a monopoly. They can change whatever they want and we have to pay. It's like medieval times when the lords could simply tax the peasants anytime they wanted more money. The same with pharmaceutical companies. They set the prises and people pay for drugs that do no good for them. Even kill them. As remarked by Kevin Trudeau the writer they want to shut up!!

Golden, my concern is that those who manipulate the oil prices are not under the authority of the Congress....some may be, but all are not....so any action Congress takes only impacts those who are Americans.  The "price fixing" that OPEC does is indeed in violation of US law, but they don't fall under US jurisdiction.  Note the following list of the largest oil companies. Not a one is a US company (Gazprom is Russian).

A list of the largest petroleum companies is always somewhat arbitrary as state-owned companies operate differently to private-owned ones. As of April 2007 here are the list of the biggest petroleum companies in terms of oil reserves, figures in billions of barrels:[1]

Saudi Arabian Oil Company 295 National Iranian Oil Company 287 Qatar Petroleum 165 Abu Dhabi National Oil Company 137 Iraq National Oil Company 137 Gazprom 115 Kuwait Petroleum Corporation 107 Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. 102 Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation 62 National Oil Corporation (Libya) 45 Sonatrach 40 Rosneft 35

I do find it kind of ironic that those who make the most money off of oil are those who don't appreciate capitalism. When you look at the big picture, the only way to offer relief to the American consumer is to either increase supply - allow drilling within the US - or eliminate the need - develop an alternative.
