Did you know my first name is Samuel?  Samuel Todd only bill collectors and my mom when she is mad asks for Samuel.  LOL... A good name is better than great riches.  Names are very important.

As a point though (not to be offensive) I find it kind of ironic that your picture is withheld.  I imagine you to look more like the Captain than Ricky.  So are you gonna show us your picture or what?

Although the name on my birth certificate is Suzanne, I think Soozanne fits me better.  It's a little strange, but still easy to figure out.  Yup, that's me.  Plus, people are less likely to refer to me as "Susan" when they see it.  I don't know why, but that's the truth!

Most of the time, though, even in real life, people who love me call me Sooz, even if they don't spell it that way!  ;-)

My mama named me Vivian. I've had many  nicknames over the years, and can always tell from where a long lost friend arise, based up what name I am called. In the early 90s while in college studing African and African American History, I dedided to change my name to represent my ancestorial place of origin, Africa.   With the help of a friend, we read through a book of African names, and I choose three, based on sound alone.   After choosing the three names, I then looked up the meaning.

Well maybe, but I think I've got a bit of a different opinion than others on this one.  (Surprise, surprise?).  There are many times in the Bible where God gives someone a new name because there previous name does not fit.  Shannon/Barvubuela aludes to that above.

In my case that's even more true.  I couldn't tell you my birth name if I wanted to.  If I had to guess I actually think it might be Scooter as I did see it once accidentally (but that's a different story and it was accidentally as I really don't care to know.).  My adopted parents gave me the name Michael.  It's a good name, although I rarely use it in full, usually opting for the shortened version like the 'n Laura person. 

As for my nickname here, I was actually given the nickname in high school at the job I was working.  One morning, one of the guys shouted "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooorm" and it stuck.  (For those of you old enough to remember Cheers, yes that Norm.  And no the nickname had nothing to do with beer, but rather what my last name was and what my general demeanor was seen as.).  On BBSs, Message Boards and such which are more than strictly informational (aka not work related ;) ), it's pretty much who I've been since.  BTW if you've read this far you're probably thinking "Are you sure he didn't mean Cliff?"

It seems to be the blog to misspell homonyms for guys that wanna be Mike.  Although "were" to "wear" isn't exactly a homonym,  "there" to "their" is.

DarkKnight -- this is especially for you (though I messaged this to you already as well). To change your display or profile name, do the following:

click: "Home" (your Home view)

then: "Edit profile"

next: "Edit account settings"

and then simply change your "Display Name" - it's easy, and you can do it as often as you like! 

Just be sure to leave a forwarding address.  And be prepared for the "Do I know you?" comments.

So in college, I'm sitting in the computer lab and I do a lookup on the system to see who is online (the long forgot "finger" command.) and see a name I knew.  However it was a friend I knew from other circles and didn't realize was going to school.  So I sent him an e-mail.  He sent one back.  This went on for a while (5 or 6 exchanges over a couple of weeks), until I get an e-mail from him asking, "Do I know you?".  So while the name fit, the person was different.  As it works out, I have no idea where that other friend ended up, but the person I was communicating with ended up being best man in my wedding.

So Mike, do I know you? Well, I'll have to ask just to be safe... Who are you again? :)

One final note on my main college account.  I don't think I was Norm there.  I believe I was actually "sir".  That's because I could set it up in such a way that upon successfully completion of a command, it answered with "Yes sir".  Or maybe that's just the way I set up my command prompt.  It's been too long.  In any case, I'm pretty sure there are several people in the computer lab who never did figure out why I would suddenly start giggling.
