I did not get a letter yesterday *sigh* As some of you know I got to help a neighbor put up a fence yesterday. Too fun!! And a little boy learned a lot! It was SO hot and humid yesterday - you know one of those days where if you do any work, your clothes are soaked- hair soaked- and you gotta drink a ton of fluids to compensate? Well, there ya go! Add to that- cutting boards- and there is me. Covered in sawdust- missing skin- and burnt. LOL Gotta love it! After working out early morning, going for a walk with Chloe late morning, that the fence in the afternoon- my body died at 9pm. I mean OUT! Woke up to a note on the coffee pot that read "Comp Broke after you fell asleep" LOL- Mom!! After the fence, a storm rolled through and somehow knocked out the router. Re-boot. Works fine. I laughed and told Mom- No your comp worked just fine, it was the internet that didn't.
So here's what happened...
I'm watching this family for an hour and they only had like 5 boards up. I had to go help. They had no clue what they were doing. They just kind of let me come in and take over.
So I'm working on the fence and directing everyone so it goes smoothly- they've got a 12 year old there who is sooo willing to help but at first did not want to learn how to make the job easy. He questioned me on everything so I explained it all. (felt like I was verbally writing an instruction manual on how to)
They did not have one of those flip things from drill bit to phillips- so I was hand switching them on every board. The kid was watching me intently. More like absorbing like a sponge! At one point I took the bit out to switch and when I locked down the phillips the drill spun the bit in my hand and took the skin off my thumb (the bit was super HOT). LOL no biggie for me but this kid- oh man! By the time we got done he was not swearing. I had NOT said a word. At first - whoa- did he have a mouth on him. Then he started catching himself. When he saw what happened to my hand- he totally stopped!
hehe It was so much fun to watch!
We got the whole thing done in just a few hours.
I will be helping them paint it here in a few days.
Now lets stop and think about this for just a minute. Why was this 12 year old running things anyway??? (yeah- he was running the show!)
If a parent does not step up and lead by example, kids will have a tendency to think that they know better than adults. I had to prove that I knew better than he did. Once I did, he drilled me for the hows and whys of what I was doing.
We need to take the time to show that we really do know better. Just saying we do means nothing to a child. Nothing! |

| Hey Bubble come on down to Georgia.... I've got lots of mind projects.. we could make them a reality!!!! Great Blog... and I know God placed you there to be a witness to that 12 year old. Love you. |
|
|
| Wow, a few parents could really benefit from this lesson. :) |
|
|
GA- I hope I did a good job and planted seeds in him. We're getting a list going here- LOL
DebJ- "a few" ??? lol well, maybe a few on MC- but out there? LOTS |
|
|
You planted more seeds than you could possibly know. It is a shame that so many kids learn the things in life that should be being taught by their own parents, but alas they are being learned from others....and unfortunately, that isn't always a good thing. :( You did good! Oh yeah...I need a new fence! |

I know! B can have her own show on TV -- like Bob Villa! Restore can bring the pudding! Children are our greatest resource -- and the thing is they learn sooo easy -- they can learn a language, instrument so easy when they are young -- the "seed" has an easier time growing the younger the person ---that is why Jesus said we must be like one -- and if anyone is "commissioning" B-- I get dibs! for children's ministry!!!! I don't care if she teaches "fence building" - it is obvious she has a platform with children --- and a heart for them --- sure do love you all--- |

LOLOL... What a combo! I got a drill press- jigsaw- bandsaw- table miter- and the list goes on and on. Of course all those are in storage in PA.
No no... the one you lock into a big drill gun that you pull down like a compressor attachment so your not locking and unlocking the drill to switch the bits. |
|
|
STU HEY!!! I know how to do all that! hehe
(just no one ask me to make a ring- long story) |
