| Desegragation of the church |
|

Matthew 12:25 KJV And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: In America we live amidst a hotbed of racial tension. Racial equality is an illusion that is passed on to the American people as a reality when in fact the evidence suggests the contrary. Urban street gangs are banding together by race now more than by territory. White supremist groups are increasing in popularity and growing in numbers. On the West Coast, primarily in Los Angeles County, the predominately black street gangs are joining forces to fight the mexican gangs. Prisons are war zones where prisoners can freely express their hatred towards each other. Ethnic communities are under attack by rival ethnic groups, yet we believe in a false sense of freedom. This same type of division is also in the church. Acts 21:28 KJV Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all [men] every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place. Even in the beginnings of the New Testament church there were divisions among the Christian Jews and the Greeks. Although the preceding verse speaks about Greeks in the synagogue. there were divisions amongst the racial and ethnic groups. We still see this today. I'm Puerto Rican so I attended a lot of Spanish churches. They discourage membership from "outsiders". I've been to a lot of predominately black churches and was readily accepted by many but the racial tension is still evident. I was a member of a white Southern Baptist Church in the middle of a Black community that kept me from participating in church activities. The members went out together and fellowshipped on thier own but never included me in any activities outside the church. I'm not griping brethren. I'm just telling it as it is, the way I have seen it. Somehow we need to tear down racial and ethnic, and social barriers within the church if we are going to flourish and grow. In heaven we are all going to bask in the Glory of God. Isn't it time we learned to get along here on earth? I mean there are even redneck churches. What the heck is that? A place where you won't see anyone of color. We need to bridge the gaps between the different groups or cliques within the church. God never intended for His Body of believers to be caught up in the bigotry and prejudice of the world system. I think this is the picture that God sees: Revelation 21:23-26 KJV And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. What kind of church do you see? Mychurch.org is a community of believers that fits the model for the body of Christ. There is a diversity of racial groups and ethnic cultures that are joined together electronically. The common thread between all the members of the body of Christ should be Jesus. If only this were a reality outside of the web.

| To avoid others because of their color is great sin. To stay with those who look like us is also sin, because God says "Go into All the world." |

Great post. God does not show partiality, so why should we?
10:34 And Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: God bless you! |

Jay, I love your blog!
Years ago I was of the opinion that nothing was wrong with being in different churches with people of different minds because that was just the way things were.
Then I grew to dislike the idea. Why should certain groups be in one church when others of a different skin color were in another? That simply sounded like segregetion. It had to be wrong!
Now I am of the mind that it's not all so wrong. Some yes - some - no. People associate with whom they choose because they are of like mind and culture. The Irish have the Irish Catholic Churches. the Polish have the Polish Catholic churches. The Jews have Synagogues, for crying out loud.
People have a choice in churches to associate with people with whom they have similar thoughts, longings and theology. If that cultural shift also reflect skin pigmentation they should be allowed to do so - AS LONG AS IT IS NOT EXCLUSIONARY!
If I sit in a worship service and partake in activities different from my own background - that makes it neither right nor wrong - just different. As long as we embrace the fact that we are all different and that we all have cultural issues that bring us together, what becomes important is that we do not let visual or preconceived ideas divide us and make those distinctions into divisions. The people who attended churches with the same language spoken had no malcontent in mind for those who used another tongue.
Whether we say we are of Apollos or Paul is not important. It is whether we recognize Jesus as the center of our lives and the source of our salvation that determines our rightfulness in faith.
Divisions for the sake of isolation and disparate righteousness is wrong, Divisions in ideology and cultural tradition has nothing to do with it.
I embrace the model of MyChurch for the very reason you identify. We are ONE in the spirit. There is ONE Body of which we are all a part. Cultural background and skin pigmentation mean nothing in that equation except to act as an example of what God's Kingdom can be. |

Just wanted to post a link to a general blog site on topics of interest: http://www.blacksnob.com/
If you've not read it, she's a great blogger and appears regularly on NPR's News and Notes and was on the local NPR program yesterday (since she lives here in St Louis).
She's writing a new book with a title something like Black Culture for Those Who are Not of Black Culture. It's about how non-blacks can communicate and understand some of the things taht are germane to black culture.
While I was listening, one caller mentioned that one of the predominant issues is that for black, Hispanic and Asian cultures in the US there is an understanding about what it means to address and live in a culture other than the predominant one. For most "white folk" they haven't a clue since they move in circles that mean they don't need to understand any other culture.
It's like we Americans expecting everyone on the planet to speak English when they all live in countries with differing languages. Our circle is closed in language and culture. We need to learn how to expand that - openness and willingness for those who are in the closed circles and compassion and comfort from those who "get it" already and can teach it to the rest. |

| Secregation is not only a race issue in the church but there is also segregation based on denominations and differing doctrinal beliefs. |

Segregation is anything that keeps us apart. Segregation for racial, ethnic or denomination differences have no place in the body. As Paul wrote, all parts of the body have a purpose - how can the eye tell the ear or hand or foot "Go away! I do not need you!" ?
When we look at the things the separate us we see the adversary. God is not a divider... He is a redeemer and a conqueror! What sort of God could love some of His creation but not another? That is why even though the gospel was first given to the Jews for they were His then chosen people (those who at the time were closest to his heart), Jesus said "Go ye and make disciples of all men" - not go and find other Jews who have wondered from the reservation and give them the good news. He intended that all of His children be close to Him.
Have you ever had the opportunity to watch a group of children from different backgrounds play? A most amazing thing happens... they laugh and cry together... they play and run and seek fun and joy in just being. If we could all only remember that this is how we are to be before Him. As children. Running and playing together with no concern for the labels and divisions that this fallen world would place upon us to keep us apart. Great blog, Prophet Jay! Keep them coming! |

| Amen LV! I have said the same exact thing about children playing together. We must think along the same lines.Ooo that worries me! |
