When John F Kennedy was running for president he had to give a speech to calm the fears of the Protestants regarding his catholicism.  Basically that Rome was not going to tell him how to govern.  (catholicism is not Christianity.)  Wasn't it earlier this year that Mitt Romney the mormon decided to do the same thing?  That is the sea change of difference between the spirituality of the 60's and the spirtuality of America today.
There is no discernment and it has nothing to do with the bible being taught in schools.  It has everything to do with religion being taught -which is what would happen if the bible was taught in schools- and true Christianity which is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in a believer or being born again.
We are in the last days.  So considering whats going on in the world no surprises here.  the bible tells me what to expect and it hasn't been wrong yet.  I just pray that all readers are in a church with this verse stamped on their foreheads:

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, Philippians 1:9

I understand the price of freedom. My son just came home from the Middle East last Oct. When he left, his daughter was 2 mo. old, before that he left a 3 week old son, his first born child to serve in Operation Noble Eagle.
Things I learned to never take for granted:
my son's smile and laugh
picking up a phone to call him anytime I want to
being able to talk about anything we want on the phone
seeing him on holidays and weekends

The thing I most cried over. Was at night when his wife would call me and I would hear his 4 year old son crying himself to sleep.....wanting his daddy......and not being able to explain it to him nor take his tears away.......the feeling of helplessness.

The thing I was most thankful for......the salvation of my son, and the price that my Savior paid for it.

My heart goes out to the parents of soldiers in the Afganistan and Iraq wars.  Both for those who wand to be there and for those who would give an eye to come home to their loved ones.  It breaks my heart to hear of the soldiers who commit suicide because all hope is gone.  My heart goes out to George W Bush.  Every time he is on tv talking about the soldiers he cries.  What a mess.  I don't think there is an American who pays attention who doesn't know the sacrifice that is being made by all the men and women who are fighting in Afganistan and Iraq.

FREEDOM

HOW DO WE KNOW WE ARE REALLY FREE?
BIBLE READING: John 8:31-47
KEY BIBLE VERSE: If the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free. (John 8:36)

KNOWING JESUS IS KNOWING REAL FREEDOM.
Jesus himself is the truth that sets us free (8:36). He is the source of truth, the perfect standard of what is right. He frees us from the consequences of sin, from self-deception, and from deception by Satan. He shows us clearly the way to eternal life with God. Jesus does not give us freedom to do what we want, but freedom to follow God. As we seek to serve God, Jesus’ perfect truth frees us to be all that God meant us to be.

KNOWING JESUS IS FREEDOM FROM THE POWER OF SIN.
Sin has a way of enslaving us, controlling us, dominating us, and dictating our actions. Jesus can free you from this slavery that keeps you from becoming the person God created you to be. If sin is restraining, mastering, or enslaving you, Jesus can break its power over your life.
BIBLE READING: Romans 5:12-21
KEY BIBLE VERSE: Just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:21)

FREEDOM IN CHRIST IS THE FREEDOM TO OBEY.
As a sinner, separated from God, you see his law from below, as a ladder to be climbed to get to God. Perhaps you have repeatedly tried to climb it, only to fall to the ground every time you have advanced one or two rungs. Or perhaps the sheer height of the ladder seems so overwhelming that you have never even started up. In either case, what relief you should feel to see Jesus offering with open arms to lift you above the ladder of the law, to take you directly to God! Once Jesus lifts you into God’s presence, you are free to obey-out of love, not necessity; through God’s power, not your own. You know that if you stumble, you will not fall back to the ground. Instead, you will be caught and held in Christ’s loving arms.
BIBLE READING: Galatians 5:1-26
KEY BIBLE VERSE: Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. (Galatians 5:1)

FREEDOM IN CHRIST IS THE FREEDOM TO SERVE.
Christ died to set us free from sin and from a long list of laws and regulations. Christ came to set us free-not free to do whatever we want because that would lead back into slavery to our selfish desires. Rather, thanks to Christ, we are now free and able to do what was impossible before-to live unselfishly. Those who appeal to their freedom so that they can have their own way or indulge their desires are falling back into sin. But it is also wrong to put a burden of law keeping on Christians. We must stand against those who would enslave us with rules, methods, or special conditions for being saved or growing in Christ.

Forgiven

Amen, Brother Doyle! Our soninlaw just left for Afghanistan. He'll be gone for 15 months. He already served once in Iraq. He was there for over a year. He leaves behind our daughter, Sarah and our two grandchildren, Noah, and Caitlin...(his wife and children.) His name is Justin. Little Noah cries when he cannot find his daddy now! We tied a huge yellow ribbon around a very ancient, beautiful oak tree in our yard. It will stay there until he comes home. Unfortunately, freedom is not free! Look at the price that Jesus paid to purchase our freedom! Great Post! cathy-forgiven

Thank you for this post.  Yes.....freedom is not free.

In 2004, I believe the Lord gave me a song to encourage our military in the War On Terror for our battle is not against flesh and blood (Eph. 6:12) Though as a housewife and mother I was ill-equipped to the task, our Lord opened the door for me to record this song in 2007 with a choir of people representing each branch of our military.  An Army Dad put together a slide show to it so it could be posted on YouTube for our troops to find.  I am collecting blessings, prayers and comments to support and encourage them below the video.  If anyone feels so called, please register at YouTube and post as He leads!  Please forward to others as He leads, so they can post supportive comments as well.  This is not to generate income, but simply to love on our guys, gals and their families who give so much.  (They are so unappreciated here at home)  If you know of anyone serving or if you know of any families who have family members in the military, please route the link to them.

God bless America.  God bless our troops.  God bless those who support them.
