| Take The Bad With The Good |

"Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” The righteous man Job posed this question to his wife in the midst of his grief, pain, and suffering. Shall we only accept good from God and not accept adversity? It seems to me that many of us have only a partial view of who God is. It is true that God is good. I hear this phrase spoken from the pulpits of our churches: "God is good!" and all the church responds in unison "All the time!" I personally don't have a huge problem with this for the Lord is good. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. His nature is good, but is He good all the time? His motives are good, His plan is good, His ways are good but sometimes in order for God to bring about good He allows evil, calamity, or adversity to come. I believe many of us have a view of God that God is only a God of blessing, a God of peace, a God prosperity. We think that He will always respond to us in a way that we think He should. We think that He should always heal us, that He will always provide for us abundantly above and beyond anything we could ever ask or think. The key word here is "always" God does indeed do all of these things for us, He protects us, He provides for us and He heals us it is in His very name. But, sometimes He chooses not to protect us, or to provide for us, or to heal us because there is a greater goal that He has in mind beyond our own personal plans, comfort, and enjoyment. Some will argue that God does not make bad things happen to people only Satan does that. Well, that is true to a point. The Devil does come to kill, steal, and destroy no doubt. However, the Devil can only do what God allows Him to do. Therefore, God is still in control, in essence He gives consent for the Devil to sift you. Why does God do this? I thought He loved us? I thought He is good? It seems kind of sadistic to watch your children suffer don't you think? If God is good all the time, why does he let the not so good into our lives? In Job's case in the span of hours he lost, his children, his wealth, and his health. That is a whole lot for one man to take! It would make the best of us crumble and forsake our faith if that were to happen to us. So why would God test Job like that? Why would God test you and I like that? I don't profess to know everything, but I have learned that if God does allow something to come upon me, He is going to provide the strength I need and the faith that I need to make it through. But even so, some of you may be asking then, "Why would He even do that if He is going to help me through it?" Why can't He just make everything perfect?
I am going to get real philosophical and theological here. The reason God allowed evil things to persist is because God is out to prove a point. There is an epic struggle going on the cosmic universe. God versus Satan; Good versus Evil. God's purpose is to receive all the glory. That every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD to the glory of God the Father, those that are in Heaven and those that are in the earth and those that are under the earth. God is out to prove to Satan and all of his followers that God is worthy of all adoration, worship, and praise. That man kind, and The Father's heavenly angels worship Him just because of who He is. Not because of what He does for us. Satan charged Job with loving God because God had shown him favor and had blessed him. Satan said this: So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? "Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” Later Satan said to God: "So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Skin for skin! Yes,all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. Nice guy that Satan huh? Instigating a fight with God and dragging Job into it. This is not a one time occurrence. The book of Revelation gives us insight into this Satanic goading: Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Satan goes before the throne of God night and day accusing me and you of not being loyal and faithful to God. He insinuates that we only serve God because He is good to us. So to prove a point God says, to Lucifer "Behold he/she is in your hand, but spare his/her life." So Satan leaves the presence of God and then begins to attack us. But remember God is out to prove a point. The point He wants to prove to Satan and the whole world is that you love God just because and not because of what He does for you.
This explains a lot doesn't it? God knows that this is the only just way of competing for your love. Even God, Jesus Christ the Son of Man suffered and was tempted at all points just as we are tempted. If Jesus was made perfect through suffering what makes us any different for those that follow Him? God allowed Himself to have the Job experience so that no one of us could say, "What kind of God is that? A God that let's His children suffer? He suffered at the hands of Satan, was beaten, scourged. and crucified to prove a point. The point was that: He loves us just because, not because what we can do for Him, but because He loves us. Satan, one day will face his final ending in defeat, but in the mean time God is giving an opportunity to all men everywhere to turn to Him and glorify Him for who He is. Yes, He is good! But sometimes we have to take the bad with the good. |

Cindy Lou, Deep calls out to deep. This is a lesson I learned in the pain of it all. But, praise God He was patient with me.
Prophet Jay: To get an Amen from a fellow man of God is like saying sick em to a bulldog! Thanks!

Oh Preacher you have said a mouthful here....yes indeed! So many times we in the Body of Christ forget that there are so many facets to God that, even we, can't truly comprehend it all....While God *is* a God of love..He is also a God of hate...There a lot of things that God hates...but nobody wants to talk about those things...we just want to talk about LOVE LOVE LOVE....Well nobody wants to talk about suffering either...but it all comes with the package....God wants to know if we love Him because He is good to us by giving us gifts and presents..or do we truly love Him, and will praise Him if He doesn't do anything for us at all....Oh yes my friend we have to take the bad with the good...and I remind the devil everyday.....that I've come too far to turn back now....do what you will....*I will* yet give GOD praise....Though you slay me....YET will I trust Him! Keep em coming my friend....keep em coming ;o) |

MarJay: If you remember this is how we met. It was over the discussion why do we love Him. I remember making a comment that was frowned upon, that if God never gave me another thing, it would be more than enough. We had fellowship over that comment and here we are today becoming fast friends. ... You are so right that we can not just pick and choose what we like about God. I concur 100% though he slay me yet will I trust Him! Our God is able to delvier us, but IF NOT know this O King that we will never bow our knee to you, but only to the living God. Amen Sister! Blessings on you! |

| Steve: Now that we are off the baptism thing we can find some common ground. I really like how you worded everything. "It proves the righteousness of God in Job's life and the greatness of God in ours." Thank you, for your comment. |

At the end of the day... we are sinners despite ourselves, and God loves us. Every rotten one of children.
I've never, ever believed that our God would do something bad to one of us. I believe things happen to us, and we either grow from these things or we hold grudges and fall away. The blessing in all of it is that God never falls away from us. During these times of struggle and grief, HE is the One holding us close to Him, whether we admit or not. He wants to become closer to HIM.
God is invincible! |

I believe God's nature is only all-loving and merciful and Jehovah Rapha the healer. I refuse to believe that he would be an accomplice to the devil who destroys. Since experience is not the best teacher, but the Spirit of God is, I try to see where my faith falls short and hold on to His word until I receive the manifestation. We can all hear the Word, but the challenge is to hold on to it. God gave us charge of the planet and gave us more than enough power htan we'll ever need, and it seems that we are no just scratching the surface of it. Was Job was allowed to be sick? The devil would have someone use this to accept their sickness as though it came from God V: Job 3:25,35:16,38:2,42:3/2Tim 1:7/Heb 2:15/Hosea 4:6 Was Job’s hedge taken away due to God taking it or was it taken away due to the spirit of fear ministering to him? God is not an Indian giver (excuse the expression, I am part Indian). He said "The good Lord giveth and the good Lord taketh away", because he had a lack of knowledge and did not understand at the time what God was doing. His captivity was released when he prayed for his three friends (not Elihu). He could not read the first chapters of Job like we can, and see that it was the devil doing this and God was spectating over a rule that could never change.
It seems the devil does what we allow him to do in our lives due to ignorance or the belief that we are powerless to do something about it. Since God is not in control of everything, (I.E. starvation, rape, murder, our personal choices) it is up to us to find out our responsibility for what we are to do after He has said "It is finished". When the Spirit came on Elihu to intercede, God explained that it was not him and Job was wrong. His correction led him to have greater than what he ever had. The devil didn't teach him a lesson, but God did. Of course the devil has been kicked out now.
It may be just me, but I believe God is good all the time, never changes and His mercy endures forever! I believe that by the time the body of Christ comes together in unity, we will be ready to be taken off this planet... |

Victorious: Yes we must understand the nature and character of God. God is light in and in HIm there is no darkness at all. He is Holy meaning that He is pure with Him there is no variation or shadow of turning. He is good and His mercy endures forever. But, if He is good all the time than that means that He would be less than omnipotent. In other words, If He loved me, then why would He not resuce me? If He loved me then why would He let it happen? If He loved me then why does He allow Satan to buffet us?
I am going to give you some scriptures that will help hopefully convey what I was attempting to say.
45:6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that [there is] none beside me. I [am] the LORD, and [there is] none else. 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these [things]. 45:8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
The Hebrew word for "evil" is: ra‛ râ‛âh H7451רעה רע rah, raw-aw'From H7489; bad or (as noun) evil (naturally or morally). This includes the second (feminine) form; as adjective or noun: - adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, + displease (-ure), distress, evil([-favouredness], man, thing), + exceedingly, X great, grief (-vous), harm, heavy, hurt (-ful), ill (favoured), + mark, mischief, (-vous), misery, naught (-ty), noisome, + not please, sad (-ly), sore, sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked (-ly, -ness, one), worse (-st) wretchedness, wrong. [Including feminine ra’ah; as adjective or noun.] Right here we see that God says that He creates evil/bad/calamity whatever word you want to use.
I want to show you two examples in Scripture where this is proven.
1. The life of Saul. Once the annointing left Saul another spirit took up residence there.
14 Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him. 15 Saul's attendants said to him, "See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you. If you remember what was said in Job 2:9? shall we only accept good and not adversity from God? The spirit that came to torment Saul was from God. Now you could say, that Saul chose to disobey God therefore He was responsible for the evil spirit coming upon him. Yes, that is true, but it is written "sent from God to torment"
2. The example of the Apostle Paul.
7To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
The thorn that was given to Paul was from the Lord. Yes it was a minister of Satan, but in order to keep Paul humble, God had to use something drastic. Paul, pleade 3 times for it to be removed, but the answer was No, my grace is sufficient.
My point in all of this is to show you that when bad things happen to us it for a greater purpose. Sometimes it is for us, and it is because of us, but other times it is for others and for the testimony of God. God uses the Devil to accomplish His purposes.
Someitmes when we pray for our healing, it may not be God's will to heal us. Most of the time it is, but I can't blame the person who sincerly believes God will heal and then He doesn't. That is faith destroying. What we need to understand is that whether we live or whether we die we belong to the LORD. He is working in us and through us to accomplish His pleasure. For those He forknew He also predestined them to be conformed to the image of His son. There is a greater good and a greater glory that comes to God when in the midst of our suffering and pain, we say "Though he slay me yet shall I trust Him." Our God is able to deliver us...but if not. God is able to heal, God is able to deliver, God is able to provide, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond anything we could ever ask or think, but if not He is still God and I will trust Him and love Him anyways. |

great blog.......people need to understand that when they become a follower of Christ, that life don't somehow turn to roses(even roses has thorns) but thanks to God, he always turns(what you are going through) into something that will benefit us in the long run....... bad things happen to good people,God doesn't create bad things but he will allow you to go through it because He knows that it will prepare you for something you will face later on in life and you will be just a little stronger and have more faith to face it....Romans 8:28.......is one of my favorite verses......... i also know that with God on my side, i will go through and come out on the other side.......... |
