| The Value of Vacation Bible School |

Any of you go to VBS as a kid? I can tell you from personal experience how important this ministry is. I gave my life to Jesus Christ as a nine year old at VBS at First Baptist Church of Steele, MO. In 1990 the snacks were still confined to Oreos (the cheap kind) and Kool-Aid, but the people there told kids about Jesus. I can still remember sitting in Bro. Gene Edwards' office and hearing him tell me about how much Jesus loved me. The idea of Jesus giving up His life so that my sins could be forgiven jumped out at me. Nobody had ever loved me like that. So I gave my life to Jesus right there in Bro. Gene's office.
I am writing this to encourage you and your church to invest in Vacation Bible School. If your church already does it, then get involved! It makes a HUGE difference in the lives of both kids and their families. This will be the third VBS that we've done since coming to Bethany, and I can think right now of four families where the parents became Christians partly because of their kids being in VBS. IT MATTERS!! If your church doesn't do it yet, talk to your pastor about starting it up! You can do one day, three day, or five day VBS, and you can tailor it to the personnel and budget of your church.
Lifeway Christian Resources, the publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, has excellent VBS resources and articles. You can access their information here.

Group Publishing does a great job with their VBS stiff too-in fact, we've used their curriculum two years now and really like it.

The point is-get started with VBS! It REALLY matters in the lives of kids and families, and it can get your WHOLE church excited about ministry. |
