today's church has lost it's fear of the LORD in my opinion...why else would there be so much corruption, laziness, sin, rebellion and hypocrisy within the church? Back in the day, folks would get called out because of their sin and it would make others within the church afraid to sin! haha

(1 Corinthians 5 is a good example of public rebuke within the church, but not the only one).

I do believe that Paul regretted being so harsh (I am really going out on a limb here with my horrible memory), but he did not regret calling the sin out before the church.

I think we as a people have lost the "Fear of the Lord". I feel this way, because right now there is such a push for "Uplifting/Prosperity" sermons. We don't want to tell people that they are living wrong, treating others wrong and overall displeasing God. Instead, we are telling people how much God loves us and how much he will prosper us.How does that help us to become better Christians? However, I remember how much people use to fear God. To know that we couldn't just say, "God knows I was goning to do it and he forgives me anyway". and that everything is then ok.That has to stop being good enough!!!! We have lost our backbone in the word. Some are so concerened about filling their churches that they don't want to make people uncomfortable by telling them "Right now you are not pleasing God" and "What if he has given you all the chances you are going to get?" When we are happy again to be on the otherside of popular thinking and outside the norm.....then we to can grow in the fear of the Lord. Think of it this way. I love my mother and fear her equally. "I brought you into this world and I will take you out", we have all heard this. And when we did - we did not make the same mistake.Because what is fear - than another way to love someone. So if we really FEARED the Lord, why are we acting like his word is a threat instead real?

Proverbs 1:7 says "The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge".  Its impossible to be a Christian and not fear God or the repurcussions of not obeying his word.  A lot of people don't fear the Lord because they don't understand his word.  One day we all will have to be accountable to God for the time we spent here on earth.  That along should make you fear him.  I agree that teaching how forgiving God is, does give some people the impression that they can continue to live the way they are now and one day whenever they feel like it they will change.  Nobody knows the day nor the hour when the Lord will return or when he may call you home.  There are people who were living yesterday, who died today who thought they had time.  There is no better time than the present to start to gain knowledge which begins with Fearing God!!!

I believe that as christians we shouldn't be afraid to stand on the truth even if it does make some uncomfortable. But I personally believe that the Holy Spirit never wants us to stop telling about His goodness just because one may get the wrong impression on how they should live...I will never be closed mouth about how good God is...Once a person truly accepts the gift of salvation and the Holy Spirit no one really needs to tell you when you've sinned because you will know, if you are a true "christian"( 1 John 2 :27).
Maybe society does not have the "Fear of the Lord" like they should. But we as people can't put that fear in others, we can only teach the word and trust the Holy Spirit will do what the Lord says it will do in His word.

The Lord has made all things for Himself: yea, even the wicked for the days of evil.(Proverbs 16:4)
It isn't that people don't fear God, it is scripture, these are evil times and the things you see and hear about, must happen and will happen. it is the will of God!
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.(Proverbs 16:9)
Our Lord and Savior could not return if we didn't see things we see. sad but true.
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.(Proverbs 15:33)
But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him,which after He hath killed hath power to cast
into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him.(St. Luke 12:5). All we can do is spread the good news,
and stay prayed up. cause we are all building accounts some where, we just have to let others know that. and ask them, where is your account being built, Heaven or Hell. and let them know
the fire don't quench. God bless us all.

interesting and good takes on this topic........here's my take....

fear of the Lord should lead to something, based on the individual's fear/reverence.  it's interesting when you look in the bible at "fear the Lord" - it is many times followed by either service, obedience or praise.   joshua 24:14, "now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness."  1 samuel 12:24, "but be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you."  ecc 12:13, "now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole {duty} of man."

other times, "fear the Lord" is followed by going against sin and evil.  proverbs 3:7, "do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil."  proverbs 8:13, "to fear the Lord is to hate evil;"

so, for Christians, it seems that if we fear God, it would lead to obedience, service and resisting and hating evil/sin.  our fear of God is demonstrated by our obedience, how much, how well, and the attitude in which we serve others, and the way we feel about evilness/sin (fornication, hate, unforgiveness, lack of control with out tongue, lying, cheating, etc.) - the very things that the world accepts.

so as i reflect, my question is not whether non-believers fear the Lord, because that is obvious that they don't - but do believers really fear the Lord?  and i'm not saying that believers don't - i'm just asking the question.  and if believers do fear the Lord, is it evident in their obedience, their service and their attitude towards evil and sin.

so i ask myself this question, and i ask you to ask yourselves the same question.
