on a roll with catching up on posting my sermon notes...
June 15, 2008 Speaker: Major Andy Kelly Scripture: Exodus 19:2-8
"Everything God Says, We Will Do"
v.1 Three months after the came out of the land of Egypt, they reached the wilderness of Sinai. Prior to this they had witnessed plagues, parting of the Red Sea, the Israelites saw first hand these things and heard the promises of God.
v.3 Moses went up to God on the mountain. "Tell this" to the Israelites. If they obey and keep my covenant, then they'll be my special people.
v.7 Moses told the people what God said
v.8 All the people said "We will do it" "everything God says, we will do"
How quickly they forgot! They were impatient. They made a golden calf, repented, came to the promised land, sent spies. 2 spies praised the land, 10 said it's too dangerous. Instead of believing the promise of God, they forgot about it. They wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.
We must ask forgiveness - turn away from sin - remember our promise to God.
God is waiting for us to come to Him for forgiveness. He always forgives and forgets our sin.
Scripture is full of stories of people who made promises to God and broke those promises.
We no longer make animal sacrifices - Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
Have we allowed anything to get in the way of our relationship with God?
Am I doing everything that God says? Am I doing what God wants me to do? Have I broken any promises to Him?
Now's the time to ask for forgiveness & repent. Now's the time to remember my promises to God.
19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
