| What Are You Pursuing? |

The pursuit of riches has led many into temptation. Riches in and of themselves are not evil but many times the pursuit of them causes difficulties beyond measure. Jesus said if we will seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness everything will be added to us. The problem for many is Jesus did not say when this "addition" will take place. For some it happens rather quickly and for others not in this life time. The acquisition of things is not a good reason to follow God it is more just a side benefit. God is the real prize! He is the one to pursue! Pursuit of Him brings joy, peace, pleasure, happiness, satisfaction, fullness, and righteousness. Wealth though useful and sometimes helpful usually, but not always, does more harm than good. Let us pursue the Master for He is better than all riches!
6:6 There is great gain in godliness with contentment; 6:7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world; 6:8 but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 6:9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs. |
