| I don't usually do this. I don't know why really. I just don't share easily what is on my heart with others. I can if called upon to do so but it is usually hard for me. Today, however, I have to share. I am reading a book by Frank Peretti called "The Visitation." His books usually have a theme of sharing from a first person perspective about the adventures of numerous characters while revealing something of the spiritual realm. At least, that is what I've discovered from reading a few of his books. Now I have just read a passage about different people in a small church in the northwest that were impacted by the ministry of a young preacher and his wife. I couldn't help but think about my Daughter Polly and my Son-In-Law Kelly. How they left Oregon in search of God's will in a sprawling south Georgia town called Valdosta. What I am rediscovering is the reason we are here to help them. To help plant a church, yes, but more than that, we are here because we care about people. This is where God has called us to reach out to those around us. It's all about people. Their stories will come back to us over the coming years as reward enough for what we are doing here. The legacy that we want to pass on is a genuine love for those around us and a genuine desire for them to come to a knowledge of a personal relationship with Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. But not only that but a knowledge that they are loved and cared for by people right here, right now. It's not about buildings or land. It's not about prestige or power. It's not about things, whether they be material or behavioral. It's not about judgement or trying to do what is "right." It's about people. It's about loving caring relationships. It's about being there for others and others being there for you. The world has become much to impersonal and goal oriented when all any of us ever wanted was someone to care. You know what I mean? |
