| Grandma's Porch |

This scripture reminds me of when I was a young girl and on Sundays my family would visit my grandmother who lived in the country. While traveling down the country roads, we would see these large beautiful homes with nice shadowed porches that just made one want to sit and stay awhile rocking in the rocking chairs.
The one thing that stopped me from doing this was I had no right to be there with out an invitation from the owners. You see I did not dwell there so I could not go in and take comfort from the cool porch.
But when I got to Grandma's house, she would be sitting on her porch enjoying the shadow of her porch. She had the right to be on that porch enjoying her rocking chair, you see she lived there, so she could enjoy the benefits of what that porch offered to her.
You see if we dwell in the house of God, if we are in the shelter of his presence, if we taking our dwelling under his blood, then we too can enjoy the shadow of his protection.
That shadow hides us from the heat of the battle, it hides us from the wind of our enemies, while giving us comfort for our weary souls. And, if we take our dwelling in his shelter, we have the right to enjoy his shadow.
There was nothing like rocking on Grandma's porch in the heat of a late afternoon while sipping on some of her sweet tea. Somehow I just forgot about the heat of the day and just enjoyed the shadow of her porch.
