Speaker: Major Amy Kelly Scripture: Romans 11:33-36
"After all... It's Not About Me"
When we study scripture, we quickly realize it's not about us.
11:33 O how deep is the wealth of the wisdom and knowledge of God! no one is able to make discovery of his decisions, and his ways may not be searched out. 11:34 Who has knowledge of the mind of the Lord? or who has taken part in his purposes? 11:35 Or who has first given to him, and it will be given back to him again? 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be the glory for ever. So be it.
For centuries mankind thought the earth was the center of the universe. Capernicus thought something crazy, the sun was the center and the earth revolved around it.
When we find out we are not the center of our lives, but Christ is the center, we are set free from burdens and are liberated.
1:21 Far over all rule and authority and power and every name which is named, not only in the present order, but in that which is to come: 1:22 And he has put all things under his feet, and has made him to be head over all things to the church,
The moon reflects the greater light of the sun. What would happen if we all would take our proper place and reflect the glory of Christ?
We are born in sin and with a sinful nature. We (very early on) want the glory for ourselves. We are little attention hogs. We are self-centered. We see everything through self. It's all about "me." SELFISHNESS = obsession with self that excludes others and hurts everyone.
3:16 For where envy is, and the desire to get the better of others, there is no order, but every sort of evil-doing.
We are not to be selfish, but to do for others over self.
2:3 Doing nothing through envy or through pride, but with low thoughts of self let everyone take others to be better than himself; 2:4 Not looking everyone to his private good, but keeping in mind the things of others.
If we are all selfish, there is no harmony. What would happen if we put God first and ourselves last? Everything changes! Our perspective changes, our lives change, others around us change also! Peace comes, we have freedom.
10:31 So then, if it is a question of food or drink, or any other thing, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
When we do things ourselves without God, it's like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. We have stress, frustration and failures.
If He leads and guides - the directions, the plans and the answers will come. Life makes sense when we take our place - putting God first. God centered lives work!
He rescues us from ourselves. It doesn't work without Him.
It's not about me... It's all about Him! |
