The resolution's not all that great but it looks like Nike logos on the shoes in the basketball video and it looks like a Gatorade bottle at the ball girl's feet after she sits down. Seems like a lot of trouble for something so subtle.

So is the ballgirl video a fake, just an ad?

Yep, Pastor Dan.  Nike and Gatorade, respectively.

Mike - ballgirl video is definitely fake.  And the basketball one is probably fake as well - some of those bounces seem to defy physics!

I've heard brand managers and PR agencies pay hundreds of thousands for a 2-second product placement on TV shows and movies.  Considering the production costs of the videos above were relatively cheap, they got a lot of bang for their buck if those videos were really promotions in disguise.  The ballgirl video already has 1M views on Youtube!

I can see the advantage to Nike but the Gatorade placement is a long way from E.T. eating Reese's Pieces.  Is there a standard way of determing if this worked in any given placement?

Yeah I doubt Gatorade has been selling more drinks after this.  Have you seen subservientchicken.com?  Millions of people went to the site, plenty of buzz, but no increase in chicken sales at Burger King.
