We are remodeling our family room.  It all started when my wife said she didn't like the paneling that the room seemed like a cave.  She wanted to paint the paneling.  I am morally opposed to painted paneling (It just doesn't look good.) so I suggested we put in an overhead light fixture to lighten up the place.  That was good, but the carpet was worn out so she wanted to get new carpet.  Well we are getting a nice tax refund this year, so now the project was a light fixture and new carpet.  But then we decided to redo the entry way into the garage that leads into the family room.  That included installing a new door from house to garage and getting rid of one door in the house.  Then she comes back to painting the paneling.  (I should have known that wouldn't go away.)  So instead I suggest we replace the paneling with drywall.  Then when we take the paneling off, the insulation in the walls is all moldy and so we have to replace the insulation as well.

We have now gone from $100 paint job taking a couple of days to a major project costing a couple of thousand and requiring major time and effort.  So my Dad came up for the weekend and we got everything done up to the point of having the first coat of drywall mud up.  Now comes the part I don't enjoy.  Sanding the mud, making dust, trying to get things smooth, knowing that it will end up showing through the paint because I'm just not good at the whole drywall thing. 

But in the end, Steph will be happy.  So its worth it.  The things you do for love =)
