In Christ alone, my hope is found - He is my light, my strength, my song - This Cornerstone, this solid ground - Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
This song has become the family's song, originally it was my brother but now it has become the whole family's. Let me explain.
At my brother's graduation, he chose to have In Christ Along played, (one of the benefits of being homeschooled). Now we all loved this song before, but now it means so much more.
After his graduation, it seemed like everytime that the song played he was going through a tough time. Like when he got in the car from college one time, and I had a CD on, as soon as he got in the song that played next was In Christ Alone. When he was struggling in classes, In Christ Alone played at church. Another time he got home from college after being egged once, and I had music playing and that song came on. And now when he was choosing a new career path, In Christ Alone was played at church again.
Well like I said this was my brother's song at first. Well now the whole family seems to hear it when we are going through a tough time.
When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was going to one of her doctor's appointments, and In Christ Alone came on the radio. When I was a basket case after finding out my mom had cancer, In Christ Alone played at church. When she's been going through treatments, In Christ Alone plays at church.
You get the drift?lol I could go on for a long time with all the times this song has popped up.
I can really tell that God is trying to send us a message throught the tough times, that He is still right there with it through it all. And that really is a good reminder, and I seem to get tearful everytime I hear this song now, lol.
But it is a great reminder, that through Christ alone that we are here, it's Christ alone who died and rose again for our sins because He loves us, in Christ alone that we can get through the tough times. It's Christ Alone!!!
One of my favorite songs as well! It is amazing how God can use a song to minister to you in specific times. In the months after I came to Christ my Dad was bombarded on every side by Rich Mullins' "Awesome God." It was a key factor in his coming to Christ.
As I was taking the step of faith in leaving my last church to come here, it was Rich Mullins' "Step By Step."
When my wife was pregnant the first time and developing several medical problems late in the pregnancy, it was Nicole C. Mullens' "Call on Jesus."
At the beginning of last year, as my Mom's life hung in the balance, it was Chris Tomlin's "How Great is Our God."
I could actually go back and put together a soundtrack of my Christian life so far of the songs that defined a period of my life and were used by God to see me through.
"In Christ Alone" is a great song for you guys right now. "Till He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I'll stand."
Spooks you're right it's truly amazing how God uses songs to minister to us during certain times. And that is really cool to see all the times that God has done that in your life. I'm sure there will be so many other instances, and we could all put a soundtrack together of songs that God has spoken to us through during those times.
And yea those words in In Christ Alone, have so much meaning right now, a couple other songs as well but this is the one that really pops out.
"But it is a great reminder, that through Christ alone that we are here, it's Christ alone who died and rose again for our sins because He loves us, in Christ alone that we can get through the tough times. It's Christ Alone!!!"
Elizabeth, I will add to your list, FOR CHRIST ALONE... if I may, because it is our purpose to live to glorify Him. The more I read the Bible, the more I realize how self-centered I was, am, and could be. May we put to death our plans, our self-rightousness, our need to defend ourselves in moments of persecution...our pride, as we follow Christ's example.
John 13:15-16 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. NKJV
God bless your family. Thank you for sharing how God encourages you...He is involved.
