Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
There is a saying that goes "anything you set your mind to you can do it" Yet how often do we set our minds to the things of the spirit. When we set our mind on the things of the spirit God promises that we'll have love joy and peace in the Holy Ghost.
So what are the things of the flesh that we tend to focus on so much, the Bible refers to them as this in Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.
Our lives, or walk in the flesh is usually designed to enable these things to take place in some form or fashion thourought our day. here in lies why we're like the walking dead because there is no life in these things, they are only temperal and only satisfy the flesh.
The things of the spirit that we can find life in are Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
The person in Christ uses the things of the spirit to fight off the things of the flesh, a person, not in Christ uses the things of the spirit to manipulate and fulfill the will of the flesh.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
Always remember that God is the one that strengthens our decisions, like when pharoah continued to harden his heart against God, God stiffened pharoah's heart (Exodus 11) , making his decision firm. If we choose to focus on the things of the flesh, God will strengthen that desire, if we desire to focus on the things of the spirit God will strengthen that desire too! |
