1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 1:15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. But the wages of sin is death. But those that sow to the flesh will reap destruction. Sin, is dangerous and subtle and we don't always feel or see the effects of sin until it is too late. I had a good friend that died of cancer many years ago, and he lost his life to cancer. Of course, he smoked and that aggravated the whole situation, but once it was discovered that he had cancer it was too late to really do anything about it. Of course, I know there are many cancer survivors, and often times, if they can catch it early enough they can actually defeat it. What a natural illustration this is to our spiritual lives! Sin, always leads to death. In the Old Testament/Covenant something had to die to atone for sin. The New Covenant, says Jesus died once and for all and that He who knew no sin became sin for us. Sin, if left unchecked, just like cancer will kill you. The only way to deal with cancer in the body is to take radical action against it and kills those cells that are eating away at you! It is the same for the believer who is trapped in sin. Radical action is needed or you will perish! Sin is one of those things, that we all will tend to rationalize, or justify to excuse our behavior, but don't be deceived! God is not mocked and whatever a man sows that shall he also reap. Those that sow to the flesh will reap destruction. Sowing to the flesh is a biblical term for "sowing your wild oats." Many of us go out and sow our wild oats and then pray for crop failure! You always reap what you sow, if you sow sin you will reap destruction. You always reap more than you sow! Have you ever wondered why it seems that you are getting more than you bargained for? That is because when you sow seeds they grow exponentially! So when you sow to the flesh, you may end up reaping a whole lot more than you ever intended! You always reap later than you sow! In other words you don't plant today and expect to harvest tomorrow. It takes time for your crops to manifest themselves. It is the same for sin. Just because you sinned today, doesn't mean that you are going to experience the consequences tomorrow, but over time it will show up. You could splurge today and eat more than you should. Chances are it won't hurt you too bad when you weigh yourself in the morning, but if you were to continue to make bad decisions over time you will find yourself weighing a whole lot more than you ever intended! Then it could lead to all kinds of health related problems, like stroke, hyper-tension, diabetes, heart attack etc...why? Because you chose to fulfill the lusts of the flesh rather than submitting the the Holy Spirit and the will of God. Sin always leads to death. There is no other course but death. Be careful, resist temptation, and put on the whole armor of God so that you will not fall prey to the roaring lion who is seeking your destruction! |
